One of my favorite performers of the day overall was Sparta’s Camden McTaggart. I wasn’t the only one with that feeling as the incoming senior was able to earn an offer from the Warhawks following his display of talent. The ’26 RB checked in at 5’7″ 200 lbs, ran a 4.83 40, 7.54 L-Drill, 4.42 shuttle, and brand jumped 8’8″. Camden is built like a bowling ball with a low center of gravity that allowed him to dominate with his change of direction. The incoming senior made it look easy flying through bags, opening up space with his route running, and make cuts with the ball in his hands vs LBs in space. The kid is also a very productive athlete on Friday nights on both sides of the ball. Everywhere Camden has been he impresses or produces at a high level. Don’t sleep on him.

One of the top talents in the region, and one of the most productive athletes of 2024 in the state is Sparta’s RB/LB Cam Mctaggart. The ’26 is all over the field on Friday nights. He is a playmaker with the ball in his hands on offense. Cam has solid vision to find alleys or blocks to utilize. He runs with a strong contact balance that allows him to plow through tackle attempts. Once he hits the open field there is a second gear to his speed that gives him the ability to pull away.
On defense we would have to see him switch to more of a hybrid nickel role at 5’8″ 190 lbs. However there is plenty to like about the defense highlights. Cam has the range and change of direction to do well in zone coverage. The junior is also strong when playing through the trenches and making surprisingly stout tackles vs the run game. The Sparta product is a versatile talent. Check out his recent offensive highlights below.

Camden may be an undersized prospect for the LB position, but the RB/LB didn’t let that slow him down last fall. He piled up 135 tackles over an 11 game span. The incoming junior has shown that he can quickly diagnose plays and is great at moving through the trash of the front seven without getting hung up on blocks. He has solid lateral agility to avoid those blocks and has a closing burst when getting to the ball. Even when he did get hung up on blocks, Camden did show the ability to fight off those blocks. As a junior we could see him build on those already strong numbers as he continues to gain experience at the varsity level. Don’t be surprised to see him at the top of the tackles charts.

Cam was around the ball a ton during his 11 game season, piling up 135 tackles. Cam checks in at 5’7″ 185 lbs, and he hasn’t let that size hinder him on the field. The sophomore does a good job of avoiding blocks between the tackles. He has the range to chase outside the tackle box, and his tackling is reliable. Cam still has two years of HS ball ahead of him, so we will have to see how he continues to grow and develop his game going forward.
