Expert Analysis
Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
A gifted athlete who opened eyes every time he stepped on the field, Wynn is one of the top young prospects in the region who can play safety, running back, and anywhere else the staff wants to play him. He brings a natural feel for the game and shows strong instincts on defense. He tackles well, plays with physical toughness, and brings above-average athleticism. Easily one of the top defenders in the region, Wynn plays hard and was extremely productive last season as a sophomore, making 85 tackles, five forced fumbles, three TFLs, and seven pass-breakups. Don’t be surprised if D1 offers come his way this off-season.

I’m most familiar with Wynn as an RB prospect given his size and explosiveness, but he made his impact on defense in week 1. He finished with 5+ tackles, 2 PBUs, and 2 forced fumbles. At first look, he looks like how an RB at his size is supposed to look. He has a stout low center of gravity with visible muscle mass. He is explosive when engaging on the football and has some pop at impact. He works hard to get the ball out as well. His recruitment is still taking shape, but he should have no problem generating college buzz over the next few years.

Calvin Wynn flashed at our PRZ Next showcase this offseason, testing towards the top in every category and consistently winning against LBs in 1v1s. He took home MVP for the RB group. He is on the smaller side, but his burst and sheer athleticism will allow him to make plays as he adds more weight. Once that weight comes, he will be tough to handle on any down and distance. Wynn has FBS upside and is another candidate to find the field early.

Back for another year, and rocking MVP honors on his belt from both the FSG and Prep Redzone camps this year is Wynn Jr. out of Washington Wilkes Middle School. This ti-sport athlete has the goods to make big plays in the backfield and playing deep in the return game. With his smaller build he stand tall in speed and explosion. I love how he keeps each defender on his toes with the ability to make people miss in the hole and stretch the field laterally. Once he decides to activate that fast twitch to get upfield go grab your popcorn. The vision and big play potential of this prospect is a no brainer to keep in the mix.

The 5’7 148 rising Freshman RB at Washington-Wilkes was impressive right from the start. He tested in the Top 5% in the 40 and the Shuttle run. Great feet, explosive with good balance. Impressed the coaching staff enough in the 1v1’s to earn RB MVP.
Had a productive 8th grade season averaging close to 13 yards per carry and scoring 13 TDs on just 50 attempts. Part of a loaded ‘28 Class at Washington Wilkes and is definitely one to keep an eye on going forward.
