A player that I recall last year opening week 0 with an exclamation point, having a two-pick game,
Callum Fynes

best football is likely still ahead of him. Ranked as an athlete, Fynes can play college football on either side of the ball. As a safety, we see that he gets a real good jump on passes due to his tendency to follow the quarterback’s eyes and fast, fluid backpedal. As a receiver, he understands the ball is everything – often laying out to secure catches and catching with his hands. Fynes has also lined up at running back as a reliable outlet option in the passing game. Back to defense, we see that he high points the ball and clogs passing lanes well. When going down hill Fynes will tackle and wrap well. Lastly, he can cut upfield quickly and naturally with the ball in his hands and runs hard with it in his possession.

One of my favorite DBs coming out of Central Jersey,

is a safety that can cover a ton of ground in a short period of time. Surveying the secondary from up high, Callum is a DB that is always keeping his head on a swizzle and then can break on the ball with speed in either direction.
Callum’s dimensions are tough for any QB to have success against. He is a tall, lengthy presence in the middle of the field, making it a challenge for QBs to fit it in overtop to their receivers or try to throw it into the middle of the field. Callum can watch the play develop in front of him and move swiftly to break up the pass or come down with the pick. With 3 interceptions in 2023 as a sophomore, Callum will continue to extend his turnover success this fall.

A ball hawk from the safety position,

screams across the field as he picks the ball out from the sky. A big sized safety, Callum is able to match up well with the tallest receivers on the opponents team. Lining up as a wide receiver himself, Callum understands how to mirror them when he lines up in the secondary and does a great job cutting off their routes and getting between the receiver and the ball. While Scotch Plains-Fanwood wasn’t a top contender in 2023, Callum gives the team hope on both sides of the ball and will give them a good chance to reverse their fortunes.

is another young player we need to keep our eye on these next two seasons. A safety that can watch the play develop and jump on the ball, Callum was able to intercept the throw three times this past fall. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood safety played a big part not only in coverage but in the ground game as well. Callum was able to fly upfield for run support and stop the play for negative yardage game after game.

Pitching a shutout on opening day is always a special feeling. Being a standout performer in that game during your first varsity start as a sophomore makes that feeling a memory you will never forget. Fynes was a key component to the Raider’s 25 point shutout against Monroe. The sophomore broke out to intercept 2 passes and made 6 total stops on defense. The Raiders play Colonia next week.
