Past Analysis: Byron is a menace to opposing offensive linemen as an edge rusher. The junior Defensive End recently tied 2nd in the state for total sacks recorded (15.5 sacks). What makes Byron nearly impossible to block is his hand skills and ability to push off the opposing lineman with ease. Many notable NFL star defensive ends primarily create space by using their hands to push off the opposing guards. For Byron, he can gain leverage and beat low blocks with his incredible hand skills. Along with that, Byron is pretty quick off his feet which allows him to get to the quarter more ack quicker. Keep an eye out for Byron May to continue causing pressure on opposing offenses this fall.
At the end of the fall season, Byron finished with the most total sacks in the state 5A class and finished 3rd statewide with 17. Byron continued to impress this season for Rowan County’s defense. By looking at some of the significant plays he made this season, I can already tell he has further developed his game. Byron can get quicker off the line to put pressure on the QB and also inherited remarkably quick reflexes on some plays. Byron and the Rowan County team (4-6) will face off against Boyle County (8-2) this Friday.

Byron May Byron May 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Owen County | 2023 State KY is a player that I had high on my radar throughout this past year. He had an outstanding senior regular season, finishing with 59 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns. May is an explosive pass rusher off the edge, using his speed to run right by opposing offensive tackles. He also has a nice variety of pass rush moves to fight off blocks. Against the run, May plays with a very high motor, showing that he can run all over the field to make tackles in the open field. Byron currently holds an offer from Morehead State but I believe that more college coaches should consider extending him an offer as he has the talent to be a very productive defensive end/outside linebacker at the next level.

May currently has 17 sacks through nine games along with 57 total tackles and 24 tackles for loss. He is an athletic pass rusher that uses his speed to blow right by opposing offensive tackles. May also has shown a great variety of pass rush moves that he is able to do to avoid blocks. He plays with a very high motor and keeps his feet running through contact once he gets to the ball carrier in order to secure the tackle or sack. Byron May Byron May 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Owen County | 2023 State KY is a player that I have been very high on for a while now. The statewide leader in sacks but on another very impressive performance this past Friday, finishing the game with four sacks and six tackles for loss. May lived in the Holmes backfield on Friday night, using his speed to blow right by opposing offensive linemen, He also showed the ability to use pass rush moves to get off blocks with ease. Once he got to the ball carrier, he did a great job of running his feet on contact to secure the tackle or sack. When the play was away from him, May did a good job of reading the play and coming down the line to make plays from the opposite side. Byron currently holds an offer from Morehead State but I expect more to come as he has the talent to be a very successful defensive end in college.

Byron May Byron May 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Owen County | 2023 State KY is a player that I have been high on for quite some time now. He is coming off an outstanding junior year in which he finished second in the state in sacks with 15.5. May dominates off the edge, using a great combination of strength and speed to win. He has an explosive first step off the line of scrimmage and has the speed to run right by opposing offensive tackles. May also has a strong bull rush, driving his blocker into the pocket. I also like May’s ability in the run game to read the play and react quickly to get to the ball. Byron currently holds an offer from Morehead State but I expect more to come as he has the skill set to be a talented defensive end at the next level.

My first defensive player on this list is Rowan County defensive end Byron May Byron May 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Owen County | 2023 State KY . May was already high on my radar following an impressive junior season and he picked up right where he left off this past Friday! Byron lived in the West Carter backfield Friday night, showing impressive speed off the edge and finishing with two sacks and four tackles for loss. May also made a very impressive play against the pass, using his athleticism and hands to jump up and catch an interception while rushing the passer and then taking it to the end zone for a touchdown. Byron currently holds an offer from Morehead State but more should come as he has the potential to be a very good player at the next level.
