Baker has put on good size this offseason and is a player that moves well laterally, has good quickness, and showcases physicality. On Friday night, he did a good job of shedding his blocks and having good pursuit to get the ball carrier. He has a high motor, is an active backer and best as an on-ball, attacking backer who can be physical and press forward.

Baker has elite upside and a player with a great combination of speed and physicality. He is an exceptional backer and can be on-ball or off-ball. During 7’s this offseason, he’s shown great comfort in covering in space and occupying his zone spacing. Baker has tantalizing traits and I prefer him as an on-ball backer where he can roam and attack. He has textbook tackling form, great speed and size. He is an athlete that can be paired on an athletic Tight End and shut him down and can be an EDGE rusher on key 3rd downs. He’s a great athlete and will be a Power-Four starter.

During the 7’s event, Baker showed great anticipation and movement patterns being a backer. He did a good job in space and in coverage. Baker doesn’t get lost in coverage and has a natural feel as a covering backer. He showed great closing speed and got into passing lanes that made quarterbacks balk and have to reset their throws. He’s a great backer for the class, and watching him in coverage all day showcased his versatility.

Baker has a fantastic frame and will grow into his frame and should easily get close to 230 lbs when his High School days are over. He is an uber-talented and athletic Linebacker. Baker showcases excellent speed with bend at the hip and an excellent Linebacker in space. Because of his athletic traits, you can line him up as an off-ball linebacker and he’ll get into passing lanes, disrupt windows, and get his hands on the ball. Baker also has excellent instincts and deciphers plays quickly. He is physical and explosive. He will take on a ball carrier head-on and is a freight train. He wears an opposing team down with his physical play and he brings life and juice to his defense. He is a sparkplug and isn’t afraid to get dirty, he would also make an excellent SAM backer. Because of his IQ for the game and natural leadership, he’s a fit as an MKE backer. His overall speed and athletic nature with bend at the hip allows him to play a hybrid LEO role with his hands on the ground to rush the passer on key third downs. Baker is essentially a chess piece for a defense and a tone-setter. He is an exceptional talent and his speed and physicality cannot be ignored, he showcases great technique when taking on a ball carrier, and his instincts and feel for the game are one of, if not the best in the state. Baker will be a multi-year Power-Four starter at the next level and should be recruited as such.

The younger brother of class of 2024 Athlete and BYU-commit Easton Baker, little brother Broncs is on the come up. It’s been quite a calendar year for Baker, having grown nearly four inches and putting on between 20-and-30-pounds of muscle. With that drastically increased size, comes a main position change from Running Back to Linebacker. While he’ll still be a dominant Running Back on the youth level in high eighth-grade season, longterm he has Linebacker or Strong Safety written all over him depending on his much additional he size he puts on. No matter what position he’s lined up on the field at, he brings physical and violent style of play. Right now can play either Outside Linebacker or Inside linebacker at a very high level. Plays behind his pads, at full-speed all the time and arrives with very bad intentions. Played much of last season with a cast on his right arm and it didn’t curtail his style in the least. BYU is not shy about offering in-state prospects, or prospects with ties to the program, early. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an offer extended here before high school.
