I was able to see Brantley up close in person at the CFI Carolinas Showcase, and he was a pleasant surprise with his pass-rushing ability. On film, I see Brantley’s ability to be a plugger in the middle of the defensive line and stuff the interior running game, but he didn’t show a bunch of pass rush juice, so to speak. In person, I saw Brantley win with a couple of nice moves, including a straight bull rush and a nasty swim move he set up with a nice jab step to get the offensive lineman to overcommit. Brantley is a bit of a sleeper and a school will get a nice steal with him as a recruit.

Messick not only has excellent speed and lateral quickness, but he knows how to use those traits well. He’s rarely moving at one speed. Rather, he’s patient when engaging offensive linemen and then knows when to fire off with a rip or swim move. I’d like to see him gain a bit more strength, but I really like what I’ve seen from him so far.

Brantley is a strong defensive tackle prospect who did a good job during the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase. Brantley worked a couple of impressive power-based moves against interior offensive linemen. Looking at the film, Brantley does a good job of slowing down the interior running game as well. He should have a strong senior season for a good Southern Alamance program.
