Because of his value in all three phases of the game as a running back, defensive back and kick returner, you could argue that Spellman is the top uncommitted high school player from New Hampshire in the Class of 2027. He turned in a dominant peformance against a Bedford team that beat Pinkerton in last year’s Divison I title game. Spellman scored on the game’s second play from scrimmage and finished the contest with 194 yards rushing and three touchdowns on seven carries to help Pinkerton earn a 40-7 victory. His TDs came on runs of 70, 4 and 56 yards.

Why a college program hasn’t locked up Spellman yet is a bit of a mystery. He’s a halfback/defensive back who’s an impact player on both sides of the ball, and he also contributes on special teams. Spellman rushed for 194 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries during the victory over Bedford, and also completed an 18-yard halfback pass. He set the tone for the Astros by scoring on a 70-yard run on Pinkerton’s second offensive play. He also showed his speed by pulling away from several defensive backs near the end of a 56-yard run in the fourth quarter. His second TD came from 4 yards away. Spellman is an exceptional athlete.

Spellman opened the scoring on a 30-yard run and then came up with an interception on the ensuing possession.Spellman battled injuries last season, but still had 804 all-purpose yards (572 rushing), eight touchdowns and recorded 42 tackles as a junior. He is one of 20 athletes named to the Watch List for the Yukica Award, which is presented annually to New Hampshire’s top high school player

Spellman had an injury that forced him to miss six games last season, but it’s still not a surprise that he garnered the most votes (5,614) because he is unquestionably one of the best two-way players in the Granite State. He rushed for 684 yards and four touchdowns in seven games last season, when he had 120 receiving yards and one TD reception. In addition, he made 42 tackles, including three tackles for loss, as a defensive back. A member of the Pinkerton basketball team that won the Division I championship last winter, Spellman will be trying to lead the Astros to their third straight Division I championship game in football.

A halfback/defensive back from Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., Spellman was particularly impressive in passing drills, where his speed and athleticism allowed him to separate from defenders. He cleared 9 feet, 5 inches in the broad jump, which tied for the top distance in that event. Spellman, who also helped Pinkerton win a state championship in basketball last winter, is a bit under the recruiting radar because he missed five games of his junior season to injury, but he should be one of the top two-way players in New Hampshire next season.
