Defrain is a big and physical runner that gets vertical quickly and looks for contact in the hole while moving well for his size. He is a true north and south runner that can bounce off tacklers, shows natural forward lean and leg drive through contact and is one of the more physical ball carriers across the region heading into 2025. He also shows vision in tight spaces with cutback abilities and can make tacklers miss in the hole with short area twitch. He should draw plenty of D3+ interest through his senior season and is a name to note for the running back position heading into the Fall.
Defrain is a big upright runner, but is a true downhill north and south back that likes to get vertical in a hurry and follows his blocks well through the first two levels. He is a very good sized kid with a powerful lower half, and can easily break arm/ankle tackles in space, running with good pad level and always keeping his legs driving through contact. Although lacking that elite third level speed at this point in his career, he makes up for it with his physical running style and straight forward path, chunking defenses with ease. As he continues to grow and develop, he could play a variety if different positions at the next level and should have a breakout season at the Varsity level in 2024.
Most of his film is from JV but he shined in moments at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase.
He has good instincts as a runner and can run downhill. Defrain needs to improve his speed, but he’s solid at evading tackles and can pick up big chunks of yardage.
