Blake Griffith
About Blake
Expert Analysis

Griffith is an edge defender who plays with a potent blend of power and effort. He also flashes traits that could translate to either edge defender or middle linebacker (most of his highlights are of him at edge defender). Griffith consistently wins with power at the point of attack. On multiple reps, he takes on offensive tackles and guards head up, bullrushes through them, and collapses the pocket. In one highlight, he forced a strip-sack by overpowering the tackle, closing on the quarterback with speed, and knocking the ball loose for a turnover. There’s another play where he diagnosed a screen quickly, got his hands up, tipped the pass, and helped create a turnover that went for a score. That shows sound processing and instincts. I like his motor as well. Even on plays away from him, he continues to chase down and finish the play. There’s always room, somewhere at the next level, for a prospect who plays physical, plays downhill, and finishes on defence.

I’ve seen Blake a few times already and will see him live again on Thursday. I will say he is primed for a big year based on my early evals for him.
A tweener size wise but is a capable of playing any where along the DL. He can line up inside and win with burst and active hands. Or can come from the edge and win speed / bend. Blake shows the ability to stunt and rush from multiple angles. Has a wide array of pass rush moves. He shows quick hands, able to slap away the OL’s punch, can get skinny, hit and out & in move, and stay low for a dip & rip move. Blake plays with a high motor, a last frame kid. A strong tackler as well he can chase ball carriers down. Blake is a versatile DL player who is a playmaker from that spot. He. will be a prospect that offers different fits for different programs based on scheme and will continue to fill out his frame to get stronger. Don’t be surprised if you see high TFLs and sack numbers from Blake this season.

Blake Griffith showed out at the Showcase and earned a top 5 positional ranking for the defensive line. He was constantly good the entire showcase. He is a good athlete who shows good strength as well. He matches up well against offensive linemen with his ability to play against them. I like how he uses his bend and dips his shoulder to get around offensive linemen. Griffith was a top performer at the showcase.

is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound edge defender who also plays middle linebacker, bringing a combination of power, technique, and versatility to the defensive front. He is an aggressive pass rusher who uses finesse and power moves to beat offensive linemen. There’s one play where Griffith sets up an offensive tackle with an outside fake before cutting inside to pressure the quarterback. His ability to shed blocks quickly allows him to be a disruptive force against both the pass and the run. Griffith also has solid hand usage and control at the point of attack. Griffith sets the edge effectively, holding his ground against offensive tackles and preventing ball carriers from bouncing outside. His relentless motor and athleticism enable him to chase down plays from the backside. Griffith is also a solid special-teams contributor.
If Griffith can continue to improve his explosiveness off the snap, it could elevate his game further. Adding more pass-rush moves to his repertoire will make him more complicated to block. Griffith has the tools to be a disruptive and well-rounded defensive presence.
