Howard has all the traits of a game-changing receiver and has obviously refined his craft this summer as a route runner, making him poised for a breakout season. The speed and fluidity have always been there. The film shows a certified home run hitter/vertical threat whom coordinators have to adjust their game plan for. This dynamic was also evident in space, where he’s fully capable of generating yards after the catch, with a good 0-60 and the shiftiness to beat the first man.

However, over a series of camps, Howard has shown more diligence in his routes. More balance in his releases, pacing out of his stance, and intentionality when setting up the route are nuances that will make him even more difficult to deal with in the fall.

Howard is a smooth-striding vertical threat whose speed consistently shows up on tape, particularly when attacking downfield leverage. He creates separation naturally and flashes a clear second gear once the ball is in his hands, allowing him to turn short completions into chunk plays after slipping the first tackle.

Howard’s adjustments to off-target throws adds to his tool bag and makes him QB friendly target. He has added value as a willing, fundamentally sound blocker who can lock onto defensive backs and drive them off the point on perimeter runs.
