Expert Analysis

Class of 2028 safety Andrew Shie is definitely a name to watch this fall, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he develops into a top recruit. Tall, strong with a 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame, he has great size and a good frame for the position. Has a big catch radius and long arms, high-points the ball and can make acrobatic interceptions and win one-on-one battles. Displays very good timing with his hands to break up passes. Takes great angles to the ball and displays good closing speed v. run.

Shie had a great sophomore year and has a bright future on the backend. He’s rangy and has good closing speed. He’s well-balanced and comes up to play the run with confidence. He’ll try punching the ball out from the ball carrier and has success with it. His ball skills are good, and his arm length helps bat balls down. He has elite recovery speed and won’t get burned over the top. His ability to run is something that helps him every snap. His 58 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 7 PBUs, and 2 forced fumbles were good starting points and are things he can build off of next year.

Shie has good length, and I like his ability to go sideline to sideline. He’s got good eyes as a safety and doesn’t bite on double moves. He’ll stay home and not get deep. He does a good job keeping everything in front of him. He’s got solid mechanics when he’s 1 on 1 with a receiver. He has 18 tackles and 1 interception at the midway point of the season.
