About Andrew

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As a wide receiver, my gameplay style is speed and aggression. I play to my strengths to push my teammates to always fight to the end. Coming from a small school, I have learned that it really does take each and every player to do their part for the team to be successful.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am very driven. Coming from a smaller school, I have to push just a little bit harder for what I want, and honestly I love it. It has definitely paved a path for me when it comes to the football lifestyle. I am also very outgoing. I am very talkative with my teammates so nobody can ever feel left out and everyone can strive at their individual goals which makes the team stronger.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member of the Lejeune High School Unified Club (Special Olympics), an honorary member of the Student Government Association, and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and I have received A-B honor roll.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

The most important skills I have developed are leadership skills. I have had the opportunity to help underclassmen develop into stronger teammates and grow as a family.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My mom is in the military and has been my whole life. I attend a 1A school on a military base. We don’t have the same scouting opportunities that schools less than 10 miles away have because access to base is restricted. Our school hires new coaches every year and we haven’t had any consistency. Since freshman year, my teammates and I have worked hard to change our history.

What type of college are you looking for?

My ultimate goal is to earn my bachelors degree in sports management and to coach after college. I’d like to stay close to home but will pursue opportunities where the teams and coaches have made me feel like family.

Finnerty is one of our favorite unoffered seniors in the state, regardless of position and is a guy who could contribute early to a college team and star later with some extra time in a college weight room.

Lejeune’s offense as a whole has slowed ever so slightly from last season, but Finnerty is hitting his stride at the right time and just had by far his best game of the season, a five-catch, 146-yard, three-touchdown performance against Spring Creek. Now halfway through the season, Finnerty is within reach of a 1,000-yard season, something he just barely missed last year. He has good speed and route-running ability and should be on the radar of a lot of the FCS schools in the Carolinas.

I recently wrote about Andrew as a part of meeting and studying him at the Fayetteville Media Day. I’m really excited to see if he can top the incredible production he had last season and help Lejeune have a strong season in the 1A classification here in the state. From a recruiting perspective, I think with a strong 3-4 game start to the season, in-state schools should strongly consider offering this talented young man.

Finnerty has a strong release package and is quick off the line, showcasing good lateral agility. He’s able to get on top of corners and pressure opposing coverages, covering a good amount of ground off the snap. He’s not the biggest receiver, but isn’t afraid to be physical. As a junior, he just missed 1,000 receiving yards, and could hit that number in 2024.
