James is a linebacker whose film shows he spent a lot of time as an edge this past season. He plays with power, discipline, and a high motor. James’ film shows him consistently shedding blocks to finish plays near or behind the line of scrimmage. On his opening rep, he battles the left tackle, disengages when the quarterback rolls towards him, and chases him down for a big sack for his team. There’s another play, involving a toss to the running back, where he sets a strong edge, defeats the lineman, and shuts down the run for minimal gain. James has strong hands and sheds tight ends and lineman consistently. He’s versatile as well and can line up inside. James can continue to improve on hand quickness to win faster in the rep. I’d also like to see how he looks in space as well (i.e., open field tackling, etc).

Amari is a well built, good sized athletic LB who comes in as the #4 overall LB in these latest rankings. Having a strong freshman year, he made Honorable Mention All-WCAC. He can play inside or out, and plays fast the ball. Amari is quick to identify and react, getting downhill to make the play. He can take on blockers and fill as well as come of the edge with some good burst/pursuit. I know Amari is doing some good training over there at AC in preparation for next season, expect him to take another step in his impactful play in the fall.
Blessed to receive WCAC Honorable mention as a Freshmen more work to be done ! @CarrollDC_FB @CoachQuick_ pic.twitter.com/PQjW6w3z1u

James is a linebacker who has the potential to be a difference-maker for his team’s defense for the next few years. Despite a small sample of highlights, there are a few things I was able to pick up on. His plays showed him defending against the run and the pass. James is a physical player and is quick to read and react against the run. There’s a highlight of him making a tackle behind the line of scrimmage after shooting a gap, and another play shows him hustling to help make a tackle downfield on a run that went away from him. James makes an interception while in zone coverage in the lone highlight of him defending against the pass. From the brief highlights, James plays fast, physically, and smartly.
I’m looking forward to seeing how he’s progressed a year from now.
