Ak-Khabir Bethune is an athlete out of Plainfield that does a number of things well on the football field. Starting with his speed, Bethune has jets to burn past defenders. Should he not be able to beat them deep, he high points the ball extremely well. His routes are more “solid” than anything, but he will find nifty ways to create separation due to his shiftiness when running them. Against unsuspecting competition, Bethune is good for a sharp double-move to bust loose. Defensively he is often the first man to the ball, wrapping and holding up a defender while he waits for the cavalry to arrive and punch at the ball. From his cornerback position Bethune excels at jamming his defender – although he can get off balance at times doing so. Lastly, he is rangey, both in the sense that he can recover ground and extend to play the ball. Against better competition, he still achieves separation but just not as much – showing us that the ability exists and can be further tapped into at the next level. Moving forward I want to see him come back and attack the ball a bit often, allowing him to show us the more creative side to him as a ball carrier. Bethune has committed to play at Towson.

The first of several big-bodied receivers is Al-Khabir Bethune. Last year Bethune slashed 27/510/7 through the air, while making 18 tackles and 2 picks on defense. What makes Bethune a top receiver amongst the flock of Cardinals is that he can run past defenders and high point the ball. It does not hurt that he runs solid routes, creating separation with his shiftiness on in-breaking routes. Against lesser defenders, he Bethune puts them in a blender when running double-moves. This might be something I would love to see more of from him. As a corner, he is aggressive and looks to jam receivers. He trusts his speed and athleticism to make up ground in a hurry. Given his ranginess and size he is prone to break up passes as well. Although he catches with his hands the majority of the time, I want to see Bethune come back to the ball and attack it rather than wait for it to arrive.

Al’khabir Bethune stands out as one of the most complete wide receivers in New Jersey’s 2025 class, possessing impressive skills at 6’3” and 190 pounds. Despite once being recognized as a top 30 national prospect, a lack of exposure at national camps has somewhat dimmed his spotlight. Bethune’s versatility allows him to line up both outside and in the slot, excelling in contested catch situations. To further elevate his game, improvement in route running and elusiveness after the catch is crucial. Notably, his proficiency extends to playing cornerback, showcasing solid ball production and the ability to break on the football. Bethune earns the title of the best player you’ve never heard of, emphasizing his impactful potential on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and cornerback.
