When it comes to the Highlanders this season, it’s very easy to get caught up on the special prospects that have emerged in the 2026 class. But the 2025 Highlanders have some absolute dudes and defensive back AJ Vaughn AJ Vaughn 6'1" | DB Lawton MacArthur | 2025 State OK is one of them. Vaughn has emerged as one of the top cover corners in the state’s 2025 class and he’s another part of that Highlander secondary that has the potential to be the best in the state. Every time we’ve watched Vaughn in person, he’s lived up to the hype and he’s been that lockdown guy at the cornerback position. We look for Vaughn to be one of the top guys at his position this season and help lead the Highlander defense.

Lawton MacArthur cornerback AJ Vaughn AJ Vaughn 6'1" | DB Lawton MacArthur | 2025 State OK is a prospect that we got to see a handful of times this offseason and each time, we came away impressed with his abilities at the cornerback position. Vaughn is used to being put on an island and really elevates his play when opposing teams look to challenge him. Vaughn is a prospect that has blown up over the last year and his recruitment has been pretty steady. It’s also definitely a benefit that he plays on a Lawton MacArthur squad that has some of the top 2026 prospects in the state. More eyes have been on Vaughn and like we mentioned, he always rises to the challenge and performs well.

Joining Auston from Lawton MacArthur is 2025 cornerback AJ Vaughn AJ Vaughn 6'1" | DB Lawton MacArthur | 2025 State OK and he’ll also be playing for C4 this weekend. Needless to say, the Highlander secondary is going to be one of the best this fall. Just like Auston, Vaughn has seen his recruitment take off since the end of last season with power five offers. Vaughn is also shooting up the prospect rankings for a 2025 class that is absolutely loaded. Compared to some of the other Highlander standouts that we’ll see this weekend, we aren’t as familiar with Vaughn so we can’t wait to see him in person.

Last week, we wrote about the 2026 class and updated those rankings. Lawton MacArthur has a truly special 2026 class and they have several players highly ranked. They aren’t missing talent in the 2025 class and defensive back AJ Vaughn AJ Vaughn 6'1" | DB Lawton MacArthur | 2025 State OK is the latest prospect to join the 2025 rankings. There are some really talented defensive backs in this class and Vaughn is a prospect that we need to keep an eye on moving forward. His recruitment has officially taken off and he also has next level talent in his DNA. Vaughn is part of a Highlander secondary that will send multiple players to the next level. Vaughn should have a busy spring and summer.
