Class 6A Standouts in Kentucky to Watch in Week 3

After more action-packed high school football action in the Bluegrass State this past week, it's time to look back at some of the most impressive standouts from all across class 6A that have made their presence known on both sides of the ball through the first two weeks of the season. Without any further ado, here's my list of class 6A standouts in Kentucky to keep an eye on for week three of competition.    At the top of my list of notable performers is [player_tooltip player_id='1125256' first='Larry' last='Irvin'], a 6-foot-0, 180-pound quarterback at Louisville Ballard High School that has been highly impactul under center for the Bruins so far this season, throwing 16 completions out of 33 attempts for 301 yards and two touchdowns. Irvin additionally picked up nine rush attempts for 28 yards and one score. What stands out about Irvin is his footwork, arm strength and ability to hit his receivers in the backfield. Irvin has showcased his quick release, pin-point accuracy and ability to hit his receivers in stride in his first two games as a sophomore.    I am additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='971533' first='Chayce' last='Burton'], a 5-foot-10, 185-pound running back at Louisville Male High School that has made his presence known for the Bulldogs on the ground this season, picking up a total of six rush attempts for 61 yards and one touchdown. Burton has additionally hauled in one reception for a pickup of 16 yards. What I like about Burton is his explosive edge in the pocket, exerting his strength to escape the defense. Burton also stands out with his footwork and ability to use bursts of speed to escape into the backfield and withstand defensive contact.    Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='423620' first='Christopher' last='Jones Jr']., a 6-foot-3, 350-pound defensive lineman at DuPont Manual High School that has established himself as a dangerous defensive weapon, picking up a total of 11 tackles, including nine solo stops, two assisted takedowns and one tackle for loss. In addition to outstanding size and physical edge, what makes Jones so explosive defensively is his ability to overpower the offensive line and create disorganization. I also like how Jones can read opposing offenses and make commanding stops.    Another talented player to keep an eye on is [player_tooltip player_id='317787' first='Trevor' last='Havill'], a 6-foot-5, 210-pound quarterback at St. Xavier High School that has been highly impactful under center for the Tigers this season, throwing 21 completions out of 34 attempts for 283 yards and five touchdowns. Havill additionally picked up two scores on the ground. Havill impresses with his well-balanced playstyle and ability make plays with his electric passing even under pressure. Another aspect of Havill that stands out is his solid footwork and ability to use bursts of speed to escape the defense.    Coming in at number five on my list of standouts is [player_tooltip player_id='408042' first='Jahvon' last='Frazier'], a 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive lineman at Bryan Station High School that has proven himself as a dangerous weapon for the Defenders in two games, collecting a total of 17 tackles, including 14 solo stops, three assisted takedowns, three tackles for loss and one sack. What stands out about Frazier is his quick execution and ability to read the offense. I'm additionally fond of Frazier's explosive strength and defensive toughness, impressing with his ability to apply pressure and hit playmakers hard off the snap.    Also making my weekly list of top performers is [player_tooltip player_id='148268' first='Kolter' last='Smith'], a 6-foot-0, 190-pound quarterback at Louisville Male High School that has put on a strong performance at the helm of the Bulldogs' offense, throwing 19 completions out of 27 attempts for 334 yards and five touchdowns. In addition to outstanding size, speed and execution off the snap, what impresses me about Smith is his overall composure, ability to get the ball out of his hands and his ability to adapt to pressure. Another aspect of Smith that caught my attention was his ability to quickly overwhelm the defense with his explosive edge and playmaking ability.
