Expert Analysis

RJ had a ridiculous night, breaking the DeSales single-game passing record with 482 yards, and totaling three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. He used his legs as a means of attack. He made several plays out of structure and looked comfortable doing it. He led the Stallions to a game-winning drive and put up the best stat line in the area for any quarterback.

RJ has been a record-breaker during his time at DeSales. After becoming the school’s leader in career passing yards just after his sophomore season, he set the season passing yards record this year and tied the passing touchdown record. He looks comfortable in the pocket as a passer. He can stretch the field vertically and can set his pass catchers up to run after the catch. His legs are still a weapon in his arsenal, and he has used them this year to create explosives. His efforts have DeSales as the two seed in Region 7, and will host the winner of Ashland versus Mount Vernon.

RJ is one of Ohio’s most popular quarterback prospects for college programs. He holds 13 D1 offers and has picked up several lately, with a great offseason program while working with a certified quarterback trainer in Brad Maendler. Cincinnati, Charlotte, Syracuse, and Temple have offered within the past week.

Day led an offense that helped Desales to a 9-3 season in 2024. Following the completion of the season Day has picked up offers from Eastern Michigan, Kent State, and Miami (OH). He has really progressed over the last year physically. RJ has a good feel for the rush and is elusive in the pocket. He sees the field well and does a good job of getting through his progressions. His accuracy and ability to process and get the ball out quickly is impressive. He has the speed and athleticism to extend and make plays out of structure. I’m excited to see what camp season and the rest of this offseason hold for RJ.

RJ is an impressive QB prospect who can make plays outside the pocket and sling the ball. Day made several plays on 3rd and 4th down, ultimately leading to a win against a tough Bishop Hartley team. With under three minutes left in the game, he found his lone touchdown, putting his team up 8 with under 3 minutes left in the contest. As his body continues to grow, he should rise coming into the next 2 seasons.

Day is another player that I had a chance to see up close at our Stock Up Showcase in January. I was excited to see him throw live because what he put on film as a freshman was impressive. RJ showed the ability to throw into tight windows in both the second and third levels. Sometimes younger quarterbacks will shy away from those throws for fear of throwing an interception. Day is fearless in the pocket. He’s unafraid of standing in and delivering the ball in the face of a rush and knowing he’s going to take a hit. His velocity on his throws looked even better in person than what he put on film. RJ is a tireless worker who has a really bright future. Day already has offers from Boston College and Marshall. He should continue to add to those offers this summer.
