Many impressive seniors flew under the radar this year but some of them took full advantage of the unpredictable 2020 season.
Here are a few seniors who stood out and flew under the radar this year in Georgia.
Bryant Wilkinson – DE/OLB – Rome
The Rome Wolves from Northwest Georgia are one of the top programs in the state and consistently push for state championships thanks for high-quality talent that comes through Rome each year. The Wolves didn’t have their best season in 2020, but senior defender Bryant Wilkerson was tough to deal with for just about every offense that he went up against. One of the best prospects without an offer, Wilkerson dominated at times in 2020 for the Wolves, recording 99 tackles, 29 TFLs, 12 sacks, four PBUs, and two forced fumbles. He’s not the biggest defender, but He’s quick off the ball and he’s a technician. He gets off blocks extremely well and knows hot to get to the ball carrier and make a play. He’s a great tackler and was incredibly productive as a senior last fall.
Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 5'6" | 155 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA – WR – Prince Avenue Christian
There aren’t many defensive backs in the state, maybe none at all, who can cover the state-champion winning receiver from Prince Avenue. The electric wideout was extremely productive once again in 2020, helping Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA and leading the Wolverines offense to a monster season. Johnson is an outstanding route runner who can stop and change directions as well as anyone in the state. He has great hands, great vision, and has the ability to score every time he catches the ball. Not only was he a weapon on offense, but he was a great return man as well. As a senior this past fall, Johnson caught 68 passes for 1,161 yards and 19 TDs. He has one of the best TD/catch ratios in the state. Johnson also had two return TDs on the year, and as a rusher, Johnson carried the ball 13 times for 107 yards (8.2 ypg) and another TD proving he’s one of the top playmakers in the entire state. He finishes the year with 1,602 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns
Drew Southern – ATH – West Forsyth
A true under the radar player from Cumming, Southern is a former QB turned DB who had an outstanding junior season, leading the Wolverines to the third round of the 7A playoffs. He’s a do-it-all athlete who plays his best football with the game on the line. He’s tough, hard-working, and finished off a fantastic career at West Forsyth. He made an instant impact for an impressive Wolverine defense this fall finishing with 100 tackles (69 solo), 3 INTs, 3 receptions for 1 TD, and 220 kickoff return yards. Southern was a big reason why the Wolverines were able to upset mighty North Gwinnett in the second round of the playoffs. He made big plays in big moments all season and ended up being one of the most reliable defenders in the region at the end of the year.
Jayvian Allen – DB – Grayson
It’s hard to image someone being “under the radar” at a place like Grayson, but it makes sense for Allen. Playing on one of the best defenses in the entire South, the Ram’s safety had a big season for the Rams as they went undefeated and easily won the 7A state championship. He’s not the biggest guy at just 5-foot-9, but he’s a true football player with a nose for the football. If you earn a starting spot at Grayson, you have to be a very good football player. Allen proved that in 2020 with 103 tackles and 14 takeaways (10 forced fumbles 4 interceptions). He’s a true playmaker and a big reason why the Rams won the title in Georgia’s highest classification.
