Wheeling University FNL Camp Standouts: (DBs)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wheeling University held its Friday Night Lights Camp yesterday evening and the talent was in full force. Over 125 athletes made their way to the beautiful Highlands Sports Complex indoor facility to compete and earn an offer from the Cardinals. There were many standout performers and good-looking athletes on display. Here were some of the best defensive backs I saw at Friday's camp.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Julian Cordice - Cornell (PA) | 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2024 Cornell (PA) defensive back Julian Cordice was a ballhawk last season picking off 4 passes and racking up 66 tackles. He performed well at Wheeling University's FNL Camp and earned one of my first DB camp standout spots. Cordice measured in at 6'0 167 and had pretty good testing numbers. He had a very solid 40 time of 4.6 seconds while broad jumping 2.9 yards and a shuttle time of 4.62 seconds. Cordice played a lot of nickel last season and I could see him playing there or as a deep safety at the next level. He's a DB name to know this season in Pennsylvania. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='661860' first='Braylon' last='Beckwith'] - Canal Winchester (OH) | 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Canal Winchester's [player_tooltip player_id='661860' first='Braylon' last='Beckwith'] was an Ohio First Team All-State defensive back selection last season and totaled an impressive 131 tackles and 6 interceptions as a junior. He earns my second defensive back camp standout spot and had a very solid day. Beckwith measured 6'0 161 and ran the 40 in 4.71 seconds. His broad jump was one of the best at camp at 3.25 yards and his shuttle time was also very good at 4.34 seconds. Beckwith is a safety prospect and one of the best at Friday's camp. He holds an offer from D2 Tiffin University (OH) and I bet Wheeling joins them. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='768322' first='Cameron' last='Garcia'] - Westerville South (OH) | 2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The best defensive back at Friday's camp may have been 2024 Westerville South (OH) DB [player_tooltip player_id='768322' first='Cameron' last='Garcia']. Garcia had some of the best testing numbers in camp and is very athletically gifted. He posted a blazing 4.46 40, broad jumped 3 yards, and had a very quick shuttle time of 4.28 seconds. Garcia was a lockdown corner last season as a junior for Westerville South and had an astounding 16 pass breakups in 2022. He's very quick and light on his feet and can run with any receiver. Garcia is a smaller DB but with the amount of athleticism he has he will get plenty of college looks.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1582408' first='Jalen' last='Minniefield'] - Steubenville (OH) | 202</strong>5</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Steubenville's [player_tooltip player_id='1582408' first='Jalen' last='Minniefield'] only saw spot time last season for the Big Red as a sophomore but should see a much bigger role in 2023. He plays running back and defensive back but I think his ceiling is highest as a DB. Minniefield is a little slight right now at 5'11 150 but his testing numbers were very high tier. He had a very good 40 time of 4.5 seconds and had one of the best broad jumps of the day at 3.3 yards. With this type of athleticism, he's going to get a lot of college interest and still has two more years of high school left. The 2025 prospect has a very bright future and a name to watch in a talented Steubenville program.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Isaiah Tomolonis - Union Local (OH) | 2025</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another 2025 defensive back name to know in the state of Ohio is Union Local's Isaiah Tomolonis. He might be under the radar right now but he's not going to be for long. Tomolonis is a lengthy 6'1 152 and had some very impressive testing numbers for a rising junior. He posted a 4.68 40 but it was his broad jump of 3.5 yards and his shuttle time of 4.28 seconds that is really off the charts. He has the length and frame to still add plenty of muscle but is already an impressive-looking athlete at his current size. Tomolonis plays corner right now but I think he eventually ends up at safety at the next level. He will also be taking over the reins at quarterback for the Jets this season. Keep an eye on this 2025 Ohio DB for the next two years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
