Wheeling University held its Friday Night Lights Camp yesterday evening and the talent was in full force. Over 125 athletes made their way to the beautiful Highlands Sports Complex indoor facility to compete and earn an offer from the Cardinals. There were many standout performers and good-looking athletes on display. Here were some of the best quarterbacks I saw at Friday's camp.

[player_tooltip player_id='1110676' first='Austin' last='Cline'] - Beaver Local (OH) | 2024

I was really hoping I would get to see 2024 Beaver Local QB [player_tooltip player_id='1110676' first='Austin' last='Cline'] in camp this summer and I finally had the chance to. I was already familiar with the 6'4 215 signal-caller ahead of camp and got to see him in action in their final playoff game last season. He really impressed me in that game and was equally impressive at camp. Cline is an impressive athlete and has the prototypical size and athleticism that you're looking for in a quarterback. He ran a 4.71 40, broad jumped 3 yards, and ran the shuttle in 4.38 seconds. He does not look like a rising senior in high school and could probably play for a lot of colleges right now. Cline is physically gifted and has put on some muscle since I last got to see him. I personally have a D1 grade on him and I expect him to at least be a high-level D2 prospect at the very least. I am excited to follow his senior season and build upon his 2,360 passing yards, 27 TDs, 1,124 rushing yards, and 14 TDs junior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='370304' first='Atley' last='Cowan'] - Linsly | 2024

Linsly's [player_tooltip player_id='370304' first='Atley' last='Cowan'] was another name I was already familiar with before camp and covered in my Ohio County Preseason Spotlight preview. I knew Cowan was a gifted passer but I did not know how athletic he was. Cowan is 6'2 180 and had an impressive 40 time of 4.71 seconds. He also had one of the best broad jumps of the night at 3.5 yards. Linsly doesn't ask him to run much but he can definitely get you some yards with his legs. Cowan is known for his arm talent though and you could see why. He has put in a lot of work this summer with his QB trainer and 7on7 team AIT Fam and it's paying dividends. Cowan already lead his Linsly squad to one of their best seasons in school history as a junior and looks to have an even bigger year in 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson'] - University | 2024

[player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson'] of University High School was another quarterback that I covered in my County Preseason Spotlight series for Monongalia County and he looked good at camp. I knew Hudson was an athletic QB and he backed that up by running a very respectable 4.8 40, 4.5 shuttle, and a 3-yard broad jump. He also has good size for the position at 6'2 180 and can add some more weight to his frame. Hudson was one of the first QB names I starred on my camp roster and he had a very solid day. He took over full-time last season for the Hawks and put together a good first year as the starting varsity QB. I'm expecting him to have a bigger senior season and add some D2 offers this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1110741' first='Jake' last='Lowman'] - Rutherford B. Hayes (OH) | 2024

This was the first time I got to see 2024 Hayes QB [player_tooltip player_id='1110741' first='Jake' last='Lowman'] in action and he looked the part. Lowman was one of the biggest QBs in camp at 6'4 206 and is your classic pocket passer. He's not a statue by any means and ran a solid 5.0 40 and a 4.52 shuttle but you aren't going to ask him to carry the ball very much. From watching his highlights he has some scrambling ability and can make defenders miss in the pocket to buy himself some time to throw. Lowman has good arm strength and can throw from a variety of arm angles and off his back foot. Sometimes he can rely a little too much on his arm and would benefit from stepping into his throws but when you have arm strength like his you can get away with it. Lowman had a productive junior year throwing for 2,560 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has an offer from D2 Tiffin University and I could see Wheeling University following suit after Friday's camp.

Greyson Rollman - Frederick (MD) | 2024

Another new name to me was 2024 Frederick (MD) QB Greyson Rollman. Rollman isn't going to blow you away with his measurables or testing numbers but I thought he looked admirable at yesterday's camp. The 6'0 185 rising senior posted a 4.9 40 and ran the shuttle in 4.53 seconds. From watching his film he has an interesting throwing motion but can really put some zip on his passes. Rollman has a quick release and is good in the short and intermediate throwing range. I thought he threw the ball well on the run and runs play action well for his team. Rollman picked up his first offer earlier this year from D3 Stevenson University and I would say that's the level where he ends up. Even still, I liked what I saw from him and I'm glad he made the trip from Maryland to Wheeling.

Other notable QBs:

Dylan Rodino - Marian Catholic (PA) | 2025 | 6'1 193

(5.03 40 | 2+ yard broad jump | 4.56 shuttle)

Jaxon Siegenthaler - Norwayne (OH) | 2024 | 6'3 171

(4.97 40 | 3 yard broad jump | 4.72 shuttle)
