Expert Analysis
Dom Skene | Prep Redzone Scout
Cassel earned the MVP award last Monday by leading the South team to a win. His arm strength is clear, as he threw for 372 yards/game his senior year and netted 33 touchdowns. He threw for two touchdowns and showed poise in the all-star environment, distributing the ball to the plethora of weapons at his disposal. He stood tall in the pocket when asked, extended plays with his feet, and used the entire field with screens and a shovel pass early. He knew when to take advantage of his chemistry with fellow West Valley product Benjamin Pupplo to score first on a simple crossing route. He marched his team down on the game-winning drive with a great mix of bullets and a tight-window lob to score the winner. He received an offer to Utah Tech on Saturday and committed on Tuesday to end an eventful recruiting cycle.

Skyler is another player who’s been featured in one of these articles previously. Cassel has had a phenomenal start to his season, having over 1,500 yards passing already. His coaches trust him to throw the ball often and the senior doesn’t disappoint. Week 4 against Clarkston HS, Skyler went 31/46 with 460 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. He made back shoulder throws look easy, but the placement he was executing was perfect, which is hard to do. With how much West Valley HS throws the ball, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this senior mentioned again.

Skyler is an extremely talented quarterback. He has great natural instinct, all around the field. He is able to sense when the defensive line is closing him on him, so he scrambles outside the pocket. The throws Skyler makes on the run is absolutely incredible, he’s extremely accurate when rolling to his left or right. His arm is accurate and strong too, as he can sling it down the field while scrambling too. The accuracy was showing all night as he completed 21 of his 24 passes. He threw for 374 yards and an extremely impressive 4 touchdowns. He added another one on the feet for good measure. He’s going to continue to excel with the excellent offensive line and targets he has around him.
