Obviously, college coaches look for quarterbacks who can throw the football with accuracy, velocity, and timing. Just importantly as the physical traits, are the intangibles that separate the good quarterbacks form the great ones. Qualities like instinctiveness, leadership, and decision making are just as important as the physical traits of a quarterback. Here is the list of the top seven senior quarterbacks in Ohio that possess both the tangibles and intangibles to be outstanding at their position [player_tooltip player_id="34189" first="Joey" last="Labas"] 6’3” 195 Brecksville This guy is the entire package when comes to a pro-style quarterback. He has perfect throwing mechanics and displays outstanding pocket presence. He stands tall in the pocket and is cool under pressure. Labas has a rocket arm but knows when to take something off the football and not force it. He has deceiving quickness and speed for his stature and is dangerous when he puts the ball under his arm and turns upfield. Labas will play for the Iowa Hawkeyes next fall. [player_tooltip player_id="34212" first="Ian" last="Kipp"] 6’2” 215 Mentor Kipp is one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the state in term of response under pressure. He displays composure in the face of a heavy rush, holding the ball till his receiver gets open. Ian can rifle the football into small windows or lay it up just over defensive backs when going deep. Kipp shows maturity in looking defensive backs off then releasing the ball opposite. He can put a lot of juice on the ball even when having to throw off his back foot. Ian is a complete quarterback who is proficient throwing on the run. [player_tooltip player_id=[player_tooltip player_id="34202" first="Brady" last="Lichtenberg"] 6’1” 190 Toledo St. John’s Brady has thrown for over 9000 career yards in high school. A very smart quarterback, he reads coverages as good as anyone and knows the voids in those coverages. Lichtenberg is especially impressive throwing vertical routes whether between the hashes or down the sideline. He shows poise when pressured and is slippery in the pocket finding small openings to release the ball through. Brady will play for the Cincinnati Bearcats in 2021. [player_tooltip player_id="34209" first="Elijah" last="Wesley"] 6’2” 195 Canton McKinley Wesley is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the state. He runs the read option like a seasoned veteran. Elijah has explosive speed which is most apparent when breaking to the outside, once he gets on the perimeter, he is hard to catch. He has a strong arm and really likes to go deep. His accuracy throwing the fades and seam routes is impressive. Wesley will take his dual-threat quarterbacking talents to the University of Toledo. Judah Holtzclaw 6’5” 210 Westerville Central A true pro-style quarterback, Holtzclaw is imposing due to his height and mobility for a big man. He displays accuracy and arm strength with one of the quicker releases for a high school quarterback. Judah demonstrates excellent awareness in the pocket, knowing when to step up and when to bail out. Even though he does not possess pure speed, he can keep drives alive with his feet and shows toughness when running the football. He is an especially dangerous runner in the redzone. [player_tooltip player_id="34251" first="Cade" last="Rice"] 6’3” 200 Dayton Northmont Cade helped lead his team to the second round of the state playoffs due to his quarterback talent and instincts. He has a quick over-the-top release with pinpoint accuracy on sideline routes and the ability to drop the football over the top of defenders when throwing the deep ball. He has enough arm strength to throw the out cut from the far hash. He displays the uncanny ability to avoid the sack with his quick feet. Cade will play for North Dakota State. Cameron Fancher 6’2” 180 Huber Heights Wayne A real dual-threat quarterback, Fancher must be accounted for by opposing defenses every play because he can kill you with his feet as well as his arm. He is so athletic, he could play multiple positions at the collegiate level. Cameron rarely takes a sack due to his elusiveness and mobility. He has great timing on his release and can throw while on the run with accuracy. Arm strength is not an issue for Fancher who can wing it downfield in the face of pressure.
