Jarrett plays mostly slot receiver and his acceleration is really on full display when he catches the ball over the middle. He will make sure he has the ball secured and then will find open space and then turn on the jets and get up field.
I love his ability to make people miss in the open field. His excellent acceleration shows up when he returns kicks and also when he gets off the line of scrimmage. His overall speed is excellent as well and is certainly worthy of claiming the top spot for acceleration in this class.
Best Ability to Make Defenders Miss– Gabriel Winowich Gabriel Winowich 6'1" | 215 lbs | ATH Detroit Country Day | 2024 NJ – Detroit Country Day- Winowich is an excellent running back who has been very exciting to watch just like Jawon Jarrett Jawon Jarrett 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Southfield A&T | 2024 State MI .
Winowich claims this top spot for many reasons; the first being his excellent contact balance. There are any times defenders will look like they hit him hard but Winowhich’s contact balance allows him to run through the hit and get back up to full speed. Winowich has a very good stiff arm and there are plays in his highlights were he will use it to shake off two defenders. He shows good body control and change of direction and that plays a big part in him making defenders miss as well. He has very good play strength and will lower the shoulder and break tackles using his power.
Winowich is well deserving of the top spot here. I watched him play in person during the 2021 playoffs and came away very impressed with his game. I look forward to seeing how he does as a senior in 2023.
Best Overall Athlete- Caleb Williams Caleb Williams 6'0" | 160 lbs | ATH Canton | 2024 State MI – Canton- Williams is a shutdown cornerback who does a great job in man to man coverage. His combination of size and speed make it difficult for receivers to separate from his down field. Williams has a smooth back pedal and does a great job of breaking and making plays on the ball.
Like the first two guys, Williams is a good kick returner. He plays wide receiver on offense and has good hands and knows how to get open. He claims the top spot for best overall athlete due to the impact he makes on both offense and defense.
Best Playmaker– Braylon Isom Braylon Isom 6'3" | 195 lbs | ATH Saginaw Heritage | 2024 State MI – Saginaw Heritage– Isom is outstanding at winning contested catches at the wide receiver position. There are numerous plays in his highlights where he will win job balls over defenders in the endzone. His height at 6-3, and excellent jumping ability play a big role in him winning those jump balls. Like Winowich, Isom shows good body control that allows him to create separation when running routes.
Isom shows very good playmaking ability at the safety position as well. He will does a great job of making plays on the ball and creating interceptions. There was a play in his highlight were his went and just ripped the ball out of the wide receivers hands for an interception. I am a big fan of Isom’s game and he comes in as my best playmaker.
