Recruiting Report: Kyle Kornovich (2017)

Kyle Kornovich was one of the youngest kids on the Rogers varsity roster as a sophomore. Although he didn’t get much playing time during the 2014 season, Kornovich learned a lot about what it takes to be a leader from some of his older Royals teammates. Once he became a starting linebacker as a junior, that knowledge helped him blossom into a defensive leader. It continued into his final season for the Royals last fall. “Before senior year I did my best to be an effective leader, from helping freshmen at summer workouts to encouraging everyone on the team to do their best,” Kornovich said via email. “I was fortunate enough to be voted as one of the captains.” Kornovich has plans to play collegiately in the MIAC. He’s been recruited by most of the schools in the league and said St. Thomas and St. John’s have been the most active. He said the family atmosphere of the team and players at St. John’s made the Johnnies his current favorite, but he’s yet to make a final decision. “I loved the up north feel of the campus and the lake too,” Kornovich said. Kornovich's affinity for Collegeville isn’t surprising considering how much he enjoys the outdoors. Whether it’s fishing and biking at his family’s cabin in the summer, or skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, most of his hobbies outside of football revolve around being active outside. It’s an important enough part of his life that Kornovich said a future goal is to work for a company specializing in the outdoors. “Polaris or Arctic Cat, because I love to go snowmobiling,” Kornovich said. To achieve that goal, Kornovich said he wants to major in accounting or finance in college. He must first choose where his studies will take place, and where his football career will progress for a few more years. “I am looking for a program with strong values, good competition and everyone is family,” Kornovich said.
