Continue ReadingThe Sunshine State Combine Series kicked off its invite-only camp tour at Bishop Moore High which will include 8 more cities across the Florida landscape. The combine series is hosted by the Florida High School 7v7 Association partnered with the Florida Athletic Coaches Association and Catapult Sports. The goal is to provide reliable measurables and test time scores through Wearable GPS Technology which collects data on all combine participants.
The Sunshine State Combine Series shares all test results directly with an expansive college database to help with recruiting and evaluating. The event on Sunday included various athletes from around the state including the greater Orlando area and down into the Polk County region. Many of the recruits that attended were sleeper prospects that deserve proper recognition. As always, Prep Redzone Florida aims to shine a light on ALL student-athletes attempting to play at the next level. There will be more articles to follow this list of MVP standouts but let’s get into it!
Rickeem Armstrong
Rickeem Armstrong
Armstrong was one of the smoothest route runners that attended the Sunshine State Combine Series on Sunday. I was surprised to not have watched Armstrong play being that he is from the Polk County area but left the event as if he should be one of the buzzing names in the city come fall season. He was really fluid with good speed for his size. He flashes strong hands and good hand-eye coordination to high-point deep balls. Armstrong already has a solid frame with time to sharpen his tools to be a playmaker at the next level.
Devin Voltaire
Devin Voltaire
The WR standout of the day makes the list once again. Voltaire displayed really reliable hands and caught nearly every ball thrown his way throughout the day. The 6’2, 190-pound sophomore has plenty of time to add muscle and speed to his player build to be a Power Five sleeper prospect. College coaches in the state of Florida should tap in with this young man and his high school coaches.
Xavier “Buddha” James
Xavier “Buddha” James
The overall MVP of the day similarly makes the list again for the top offensive standouts. James is a speedy and shifty playmaker in the open field which pops out when watching his film. Look out for James to get more touches with Rockledge next season to show off his ability to be a game changer.
William Jusme
William Jusme
The Bishop Moore 6-foot sophomore receiver product was one of the top route runners throughout Sunday’s camp while showing off good hands and effort during the 1v1 period. Jusme was eager to get more reps and show off his alpha dog mentality. He flashed some good traits on Sunday, including good agility, quickness and sure-handed catch radius.
Chance Bennett
Chance Bennett
Bennett finished as one of the standout dogs of the camp series despite his smaller frame. He tested well during the speed and shuttle drills and showed off his smooth route running skills in various drills. Bennett also displayed good hands and ability to play both sides when catching a one-handed interception on the defensive side of the ball during the 7-on-7 period. In nine games last season, Bennett recorded 26 receptions for 332 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Quantavious Callaway
Quantavious Callaway
The Lake Region product finished as one of the top running back standouts at the Sunshine State Combine Series. Callaway has a athletic compact build that he uses to surprise defenders in the open field when he jolts and dashes with explosiveness combined with good speed. Callaway led his team with 98 carries for 560 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He also played on the defensive side of the ball, recording 42 total tackles, 5.0 TFL, and 3.0 interceptions. The junior prospect is a high-motor energy player that can be a dynamic playmaker at the next level with more work put in during the offseason.
Speed and agility are what defines Lewis’ game. He looked really good during running back drills while showing off quick cuts and explosiveness. Lewis made a name for himself during the 1v1 period when he blew by defenders and made some impressive catches. The sophomore Hagerty product finished with 46 carries for 196 yards and one touchdown last season. Look for Lewis to be a utility piece next season as a running and receiving threat.
Lentavius Keenon
Lentavius Keenon
Keenon has a well-built frame, big hands, and a lot of potential to play at the next level because of his route running mechanics. Keenon is long and athletic with an understanding how to extend and snatch the ball mid-air. He finished third for Crescent City with just 18 receptions for 398 receiving yards (21.1 ypc) and one touchdown. Look out for Keenon to be an instrumental piece for the Raiders who are losing two senior receivers.
Dejwon Brown
Dejwon Brown
Brown had to make the list because of his performance during the 1v1 and 7-on-7 periods. He flashed good hands and controlled route running skills throughout the camp on Sunday. Brown has a slim frame but showed off good speed and reliable hands which he should continue developing on during the offseason.
Dawson Reid
Dawson Reid
Another Lake Region product, Reid was a standout tight end product at the Sunshine State Combine that showed off good agility for his size and catching skills needed to be effective at the position. Reid led the Thunder with 25 receptions for 411 receiving yards and four touchdowns during his junior season. He also produced on the defensive side of the ball as a middle linebacker, recording 43 total tackles with 3.0 TFL to add.
