The All-Region safety went for over 100 tackles and was all over the field during his Junior season. He is a ball hawk as a single deep safety with exceptional ball skills/highpoint abilities and excels in run support. He is a rangy player that comes downhill quickly, tackles in the open field and quickly diagnosis and sniffs out plays from the third level. Grimes can effect the game in all three phases and has elite open field speed and initial burst in the return game. Very fluid in transition with good feet, a balanced base and breaking well to the ball, he is a balanced player that should be a multi-year starter at the FCS+ level. He should find his home at safety in college and has tremendous closing speed, can cover the entire field and is a big time hitter from the third level.
