Which under the radar receivers in 7A do you need to know for the 2023 season?
Brady Kluse – Harrison
One of the more underrated junior receivers not only in Cobb County, but across the 2024 class, Kluse has a solid frame at 6-foot-3 185-pounds, making him a big target in the Hoyas passing attack. He’s a promising route runner who can create separation and knows how to bring down a tough catch in traffic. An impressive route-runner who can pick up yards after the catch, Kluse has a knack for eluding defenders down the field with enough burst to fly upfield for positive yards. He shows quick feet, reliable hands, a natural playmaking ability. One of the more productive receivers in the area, Kluse is one of the leading returning wideouts across the state, catching 66 passes as a junior last year for 10,33 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was a go-to option last season, going over the 100-yard mark five times last year. His best game came early in the season against South Forsyth where he caught 9 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. He’s always a threat to break out for a monster game and has the potential to do it often as a senior next fall.
Wyatt Sonderman – Walton
One of the more underrated receivers north of Atlanta, the Marietta native quietly had one of the best seasons in the area last year as a junior. A speedy receiver at 6-foot-1 170-pounds, Sonderman is a terrific overall athlete who also makes a big impact for the Walton Raider baseball team. As a playmaking wideout, the impressive junior was an easy vertical threat with a natural feel for the position. He’s faster than defenders realize and had no problem flying down the field past opposing defensive backs. He’s also a dependable threat after the catch who showed impressive burst and the ability to break tackles down the field. He’s quick, can create separation, and is bound for a gigantic senior season for the Raiders in 2023. As a junior last fall, Sonderman caught 42 passes for 744 yards and 11 touchdowns. He found thee end-zone as a receiver in eight different games last season and in five of his final six games. His biggest game of the season came in a win over North Paulding where ehe caught seven passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He may be “under the radar” for now, but defenses are going to know all about him coming into the 2023 season.
Rj Echols – McEachern
A big-time playmaker on both sides of the ball, Echols is a talented pass-catcher on offense and one of thee best vertical threats in the area. A skilled route-runner for his age, Echols made lots of plays down the field and showed outstanding ball skills in tight coverage. At 6-foot-0 175-pounds, he also competes in track, making him one of the fastest two-way players in thee region going into next season. As a junior last fall, Echols caught 48 passes for 590 yards and four touchdowns, averaging an impressive 59 yards per game. One of the more productive receivers in the area, Echols also makes a lot of plays on defense. He’s a natural athlete who can help in a lot of different ways, so expect him to have a monster senior season in 2023.
