Expert Analysis
Scott Burgess | Prep Redzone Scout
This past season Smith had 1,841 yards including 16 passing touchdowns and 4 rushing touchdowns. Led his team to a city championship along with a runner up in the prep bowl. Stands strong in the pocket throwing downfield to his vertical threats with touch on his passes. Zip on throws over the middle. Layers throws over defenders at the second and third levels. Gets the ball out of his hands quickly with the ball coming out of his hands well. Fluid runner that can pick up first downs when needed, but is definitely a passer first.

– No.2 Quarterback
– Failed to win a game at AYF Nationals with the Robbins Eagles 13U D2 team, but showed off his complete skill set
– Will have his pick of high schools to attend next year and is a top-five quarterback in Illinois for the 2028 class, at this point

Another team that was dealt a tough hand at AYF Nationals was the Robbins Eagles 13U D2 team, out of Illinois. Despite a crazy-talented roster, the Eagles failed to win a game in Florida after drawing the eventual 13U D2 National Champion Arizona Suns in their opening game, and the eventual third-place-finishing Texas Elite. Despite that, I’m confident in saying that

was my second favorite 2028 quarterback down there. A year ago he lit up the 12U All-Star division at AYF Nationals; He followed that up by scorching our Prep Redzone Next Midwest Middle School Camp. This year he was QB1 of an Eagles team that made it down to Florida and battled with some tough teams, despite a bunch of injuries. As plainly as I can say it, Smith Jr. is going to be a special player on the high school level and beyond. I’m a big fan.

is another quarterback who made a name for himself in his recent performance at the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp. Coming out of the Prairie State of Illinois, Ron is an athletic quarterback with an insane burst of speed that has him trending towards a dual-threat type quarterback. The only seventh-grader (class of 2028) prospect to earn a selection to the 2nd Team, Ron put on a clinic during the testing portion of the event. It was clear that he was going put together a strong camp performance. As he translated the work over to individual drills, Ron showed off a unique skillset that set him apart from the rest of the quarterback group. Ron shows that his is capable of working well inside the pocket with great footwork and downfield vision. Coupled with his feet, Ron also has a quick and smooth release on his throws. Just from watching him work, Ron is a very natural quarterback with the capability to being an absolute force on the field. Just from this performance, it is clear that Ron is going to become a premier quarterback in the state of Illinois. I firmly believe that it won’t be long until Ron pops up on the radar for college programs across the country.
