With offseason work picking up for the players returning for another high school season in the fall, now is the perfect time to note some of the top players to watch.
This article will highlight five running backs from the class of 2024 who will be entering their senior seasons following breakout junior performances.
Herron was one of the more exciting running backs to watch in the state. His combination of explosiveness, vision, and speed is a well-balanced mixture of what is expected from top-tier running backs. He possesses the toughness and physical running abilities to run through contact in the middle of the defense, but he also has the attributes to fill the role of an elusive scat-back. After his breakout junior season, Herron’s name should be circled on the boards.
Early is a hard runner who embodies the three-down-back persona. He does a great job getting upfield and powering through defenders at the second level. Early’s size makes him tough to bring down, and his speed allows him to run with secondaries. He has immense strength and the willingness to keep his legs moving, allowing him to gain yards after contact consistently. Early is a prospect worth knowing, making him a player to keep tabs on this year.
Griffin is a player who always impresses onlookers anytime he steps on the field for a camp or a game. His explosive athleticism and determined playing style make him an instant standout. He has excellent vision and does a great job at allowing his blocks to set up to use to his advantage. His acceleration and low pad level allow him to run between the tackles and exploit creases within the defense, making him a dangerous player in space. Griffin has landed on a few radars for a good reason, making him a prospect to pursue before it’s too late.
Highlights
Ramirez had a breakout season during his junior year, ending with a 3A state title and real estate underneath the spotlight. He is a shifty running back with great vision and explosive cuts that allow him to run between the tackles. He does an excellent job at following his blocks and using his cuts to elude the clutches of would-be tacklers before using his speed to outrun defenders. Ramirez is a player who may still be floating slightly under the radar, but he is a prospect with the potential to become a standout recruit.
Lowery popped up on the radar in the earlier months of the season with an impressive performance at the running back position. He has good vision and can hit the hole with explosive acceleration. His athleticism makes him an ideal target in the passing game, coming out of the backfield or possibly lining up in the slot. Lowery is a two-way player who played in a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive back position, sometimes lining up as an edge. Lowery will be an intriguing player with the potential to become a sleeper.
