Offensive standouts from High School Blitz Junior Showcase

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>CAYCE </strong>= The High School Blitz group held its Junior Showcase Bowl Sunday afternoon at Brookland-Cayce and we were there to evaluate the talent and report on the standouts.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The West Team won 31-10 behind a strong passing attack. Here are the offensive standouts from the game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='267431' first='Avery' last='McFadden'], WR, Hillcrest</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McFadden was named the game's MVP. He had an electric 75-yard TD reception where caught the pass in the flat, caused two defenders to miss at the point of attack then he was off to the races for the score. He later added a 31-yard TD reception where he lulled the defensive back to sleep before blowing past him for the easy score.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He caught 69 passes for 1,133 yards and three touchdowns for the Rams this past season. His speed is above average and finds ways to get open often.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='119009' first='Riley' last='Staton'], QB, Gray Collegiate</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Staton won the Quarterback MVP award. He threw the 75-yard TD to McFadden and looked calm in the pocket while directing the offense. Staton is smart in the pocket and was able to make his reads to find the open receivers. He threw for 2,126 yards and 24 touchdowns last year for the War Eagles. He's poised to have a big senior season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='139316' first='Zai' last='Offord'], Gray Collegiate</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Offord has the ability to play on both sides of the ball. He caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from [player_tooltip player_id='997121' first='Breylon' last='Boyd'] for the first West score of the game. His speed makes him a matchup problem. He led the War Eagles with 41 receptions last year for 524 yards. He also added 31 tackles and an interception on defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='267452' first='Kade' last='Caton'], TE, Byrnes</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The coaching staff raved about the Rebels tight end. He caught everything thrown his way in practice and showed the ability to block edge guys when needed. He has a large frame at 6'5”, 240 pounds. He only caught one pass but did it between two defenders in the middle of the field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Dakari Sumter, OL, Lower Richland</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>If one player stood more than anyone, it had to be Sumter. The Diamonds offensive tackle is 6'8”, 320 pounds and should see his recruiting pickup. He showed the ability to pull a couple of times and get around the end to seal a running lane.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='91352' first='Kevon' last='Rivera'], RB, Hanahan</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rivera was named the Running Back MVP. The Hanahan bruiser never shied away from contact and was able to lower his shoulder a few times to have tacklers bounce off him. He ran for 1,171 yards for the Hawks with 12 touchdowns last season. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Yannick Smith, WR, Summerville</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The East Team lost QB Savion Martin early but that didn't prevent the Green Wave standout from earning the Wide Receiver MVP award. Smith is 6'3” and is also a basketball prospect. He uses that basketball mentality on the football as well. He will use his body to shield defenders from getting position then has the hands to catch anything near him.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='208344' first='Brady' last='Pickett'], OL, Myrtle Beach</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Pickett won the Offensive Lineman MVP award. He is 6'3”, 272 pounds and could get a little bigger and not lose any effectiveness. He plays with a little bit of a mean streak from his tackle spot. If he's able to get control, he's punishing the defender until the whistle blows. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
