At 6’3″ and 200 lbs, Apaiata Tengei is a physical specimen coming off the edge for Westwood. He has such quick twitch that he ends up winning most reps on his initial burst alone. If somehow that doesn’t work, he’ll just use that quickness and agility to move around linemen and attack the ball carrier. Making matters worse for his opponents, Tengei has some surprising strength in his lean frame that can be incredibly disruptive in the backfield. His high motor is something not often seen from defensive linemen and has him chasing down plays down the sideline. It’s rare to see a defensive end chasing down running backs from behind, but he does just that. Tengei, who’s a threat on both sides of the ball, is a player who should be on coaches’ big boards going into the 2024 season.

-Another kid you want to send off the bus first if showing up to play against another team, at an estimated 6-foot-2 and 220-pounds with a strong build
-Did a good job playing Defensive End and setting the edge for his teammates. Without the benefit of stats, he didn’t appear to be in on a ton of tackles but he did an excellent job of keeping his outside shoulder free and forcing plays back inside where his help was
-From what I can tell, looks like he’ll be off to Westwood High School in Mesa next year and should be able to contribute quickly to a varsity team that finished 3-7 this season
