The Skyridge Falcons (12-1) and Corner Canyon Chargers (11-2) have been the top two teams in 6A, so it was only fitting they would face off for the 2022 state championship. The Chargers earned the top seed thanks to a mid-season win against Skyridge, but the Falcons were without their star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='406869' first='McCae' last='Hillstead']. Corner Canyon's two losses came at Bishop Gorman and at home to Lehi, a game in which they led big and should have won. Skyridge lost Hillstead in the fourth game of the season and was still able to avoid losses to teams like Timpview and American Fork.

The quarterback matchup between Corner Canyons [player_tooltip player_id='406954' first='Isaac' last='Wilson'] and Skyridges [player_tooltip player_id='406869' first='McCae' last='Hillstead'] will be a sight to behold. Both superstar signal callers can make highlight plays with their arms and legs. In addition, both come well-protected and have an impressive supporting cast. For the Chargers, Drew Patterson has been sensational this postseason, while Tate Kjar set the single-season receptions record. Skyridge, on the other hand, also has a dominant wideout in [player_tooltip player_id='406980' first='La'akea' last='Kalama'] and a tough back in Tate Walker.

Defensively the Chargers have allowed 241 points, while Skyridge has only yielded 133. The Falcons have two of the state's five best players on their defense in corner [player_tooltip player_id='406857' first='Smith' last='Snowden'] and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='406853' first='Tausili' last='Akana']. These two only begin to scratch the surface when talking about the Skyridge defenses, who can stop the run and aerial attack as well as any team in the state. The Chargers have one of the state's top linebacker duos in [player_tooltip player_id='406868' first='Owen' last='Borg'] and Dave Brinton. Corner Canyon has elite pass rushers and some stars in their secondary who could make a big play.

All these stars on one field should lead to a fantastic game. Both teams are well-coached and have dominated some of the state's best teams to reach this point. The Chargers could easily win their third state championship in four years, but there's something special about this Falcons team. Skyridge has never made it to the championship game, but with how many power five players they have on both sides of the ball, it's hard to bet against Coach Jon Lehman's team, especially in his final year on the sideline. [player_tooltip player_id='406869' first='McCae' last='Hillstead'] will have five total touchdowns as Skyridge captures their first state title with a 42-38 victory.
