Located north of Tampa – in the “Nature Coast” region – this has long been a place where many have overlooked the talent that comes out of the productive high schools
But times are changing, and those athletes – once thought not as talented as other areas in Florida – are turning heads and making believers out of several college coaches and fans.
Today, we bring you five players from a region of the state that is gaining ground on the competition.
2021 – Gabriel Barnes, LB, Dade City Pasco. From the first time you watch this outstanding football player perform, you are sold. He has a motor that does not stop. His instincts are amazing and his ability to make tackles sets him apart. This is certainly a talent that will rise to the top this season – because of his passion and love for the game.

2021 – Thomas Crawford, RB, Holiday Anclote. This two-way standout began his senior year much the way the 2019 season ended – making an impact. No matter if it’s as a running back, using his quickness and instincts – or in the secondary, where his athleticism shines through, this is one of those talented prospects that needs a lot more attention. He is someone you need to hit low or he will run all day. Very tough to bring down on the first hit.

2022 – Dontrevius Jackson, RB, Spring Hills Bishop McLaughlin. This is a football talent who is going to truly turn heads this year. Quick, athletic and has the burst you need to be a big time back. Had a productive off-season getting ready for this year. If you hit this young man, you better wrap up or he will get away every time.

2022 – Angel Ortiz, WR, New Port Richey Gulf. After a solid sophomore season, this is certainly a football talent that everyone needs to keep their eye on. An outstanding receiver who runs superb pass patterns, has very good hands and can move after making a catch. This is a gifted prospect that has a chance to be very special over the next two seasons.

2021 – Aaron Wyman, FS/WR, New Port Richey River Ridge. When they talk about football players being “gamers”, here is exactly what they are talking about. A prospect who is not afraid to stick his head in there and make a play on defense – and will go get the ball as a receiver on the offensive side of the ball. Every program needs someone like this on their roster.
