I define superlative defensive linemen as a “Dawg”, and stellar offensive linemen as a “Hog” respectfully.
The quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs will normally always be first the ones to get most of the recognition in the press but the truth is that the “Hogs and Dawgs” are one of the most important factors to any team’s playoff hopes. The prospects listed below bring elite production, skill, and are all guys to keep an eye on.
HOGS TO WATCH
Jacob Mcray – Clear Lake High School – Class of 2026
Jacob is a 6’4 260 pound offensive line prospect out of Houston Texas. He has all of the intangibles that you’d like to see in a college Offensive Line prospect he has a long frame, good, base, is physical and plays with great effort and strain to finish. He was impressive on film with his ability to torque defenders out of their gap and play behind his pads and with the insteps in the ground.
He recently took an unofficial visit to the University of Louisianna and has done a good job putting himself on the map and raising his stock.
Corbin Griffin – Midlothian High school- Class of 2023
Corbin is a 6’4 275 pound offensive tackle out of Midlothian, Texas that has played a huge role in his squads success this fall. What has impressed me the most this past fall has been his ability to pass protect. Most times prospects from run heavy teams struggle when it’s time to put it in the air but Corbin has been lights out in pass pro and looked very comfortable being one on one out on an island. He will need to bring that same level of intensity to the playoffs for them to sustain their regular season success.
Caleb Hackleman– Pleasant Grove – Class of 2024
Caleb is a 6’5 275 pound tackle out of Texarkana that has a long frame, good feet, and has put some good reps on tape this past fall.
He has visually improved his technique from last fall and he has been very impressive with his strain to finish and did a great job of striking and vicing the defender once they were in range. He holds offers from Texas Tech, Baylor and numerous other Division one institutions but recently took another unofficial to Baylor and reportedly had a great time.

DAWGS TO WATCH
Nigel Smith – Melissa High – Class of 2024
Nigel is a 6’5 260 pound Defensive End out of Melissa Texas that has completely tore it up this past fall. He has a great first step and has been a match up nightmare for offenses lines this fall. What impressed me the most is his motor and the bevy of pass rush moves that he has in his bag. The elite defender has offers from virtually everywhere in America and has all of the makings and intangibles of a high major prospect.

– Shadow Creek High – Class of 2024
Zion is an explosive 6’2 240 pound 3-4 defensive end that has been a problem for offensive lines to block all year. His burst and closing speed make him a tough match up and the fluidity in his pass rush made OC’s look silly on 3rd down all year. He has seen his stock rise and recruiting has started to heat up with an offer from Tulane university. He’s going to be one to keep an eye on as he continues to put in work in the playoffs.
