Zaire Spellman
About Zaire
Expert Analysis
Chris Redding | Prep Redzone Scout
Zaire has a elite ball skills and great catch radius to track the football well down field. He is very fluid with his movements and shows an extra burst with the ball in his hands. Although he is slightly undersized, he consistently wins the one-on-one matchups and is a nightmare for opposing secondaries. Zaire is twitchy in and out of cuts and seems to pull away from defenders with ease. His elite speed and natural catching ability make him a true WR1. Spellman is able to play both inside and outside WR and return kickoffs, adding to his overall value as a player. The Archbishop Stepinac (NY) transfer will be an immediate playmaker for St. Thomas More.

Spellman is the only offensive skill returner who had significant production and is a player who could have a major breakout season for Stepinac. Spellman is one of the faster athletes in the CHSFL and has routinley been a top performer at the Elite V showcase the past couple seasons. Spellman will be the player on offense to watch and although last season was a big WR room that saw a ton of spreading the ball around I could see Spellman having a 2022 Gjok Dedvukaj type season where he is the clear #1 option.

Spellman is a very impressive athlete who is one of the faster prospects in the CHSFL. A long list of talented WR prospects at Stepinac year over year makes has limited opportunities but there is not a player in the state who has a bigger opportunity to become the focal point of an offense that over the past few years has been one of the most productive in New York.

Once again at this event, Spellman clocked in as one of the fastest players. According to Catapult Sports, Spellman hit 22.58 MPH as his top speed. That was the second-fastest time recorded at the event. Along with his speed, came fantastic grabs. Spellman showcased strong hands and the ability to make difficult catches. His acceleration allowed him to leave defenders in the dust in 1v1’s. Spellman blazed downfield and proved to be one of the camp’s top deep threats.

The speedster from Stepinac is a must watch player in the catholic league this season. He is one of the most athletic players in the state and he’s been doing a great job this offseason. At the elite Rutgers 7v7 tournament, Spellman made sure everybody knew what he was capable of. He had some impressive contested catches where he showed he can be effective in a jump ball spot. Spellman also showed how dangerous he is in the open field. Even in just a 7v7, Spellman made people miss and exploded for a ton of yards after the catch. With the crusaders graduating all those senior receivers watch out for Spellman.

Another speedster I loved at this event, Spellman was all over the place making plays. While there were some reps that he could have been more polished on, Spellman was a playmaker out there. He adjusted his body and made some outstanding catches during the event. But what had separated Spellman was how he could blaze. A breakout junior season is written all over him. He was able to burn some defenders and he was smooth downfield. When working with

The super athletic sophomore, has breakout season written all over him. Stepinac returns a ton of talent on offense but they graduated three key receiving options, including one of the states leaders in receptions within Gjok Dedvuaki. That’s where Spellman comes in and makes a difference for Stepinac. Last season he showed his big play ability in special teams. He was excellent playing in special teams as he pulled off some big plays as either a returner or coming away with tackles on kickoffs. Stepinac was creative with spellman using him as a running back and a receiver. When Spellman plays receiver this season, watch out for his quickness to get him loose and be a serious threat downfiueld. While attention will be focused on
