Who doesn’t like amazing TE play where they are dominating threats in the red zone and can stretch the middle of the field vertically like a WR! Well, you get all that here and more with Nick Leonard Nick Leonard 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Victor | 2024 State NY from Victor High School. Nick stands in at 6’4” and weighs 230-pounds, and in addition to TE he plays the DE position. This is a very intelligent football player that has been playing on varsity for his 4th season now. What I love to hear is when Leonard told me that he has a mind for the game, always picking his coaches brains to improve his game for the team.Turning to Nick’s play, I was so impressed by the physicality and the athleticism of running away from defenses after the catch. This is a TE that can/will break off multiple tackle attempts after the catch. Doing the dirty work of blocking and blocking at a high rate into the second level of the defense was very evident in Leonard’s game. Multiple times, Nick was attacking LBs in the 2nd level, and was even effective in his ability to make pull action blocks. The versatility to line up all over the LOS and run effective pass patterns is embedded into the tape that Leonard produced this past year. Leonard can run the majority of the route tree at a high level and creates excellent separation from DBs or LBs in coverage. At the DE position, the raw talent to make incredible game changing plays was all over this young man’s tape. On one play, Leonard was able to cleanly pick off a QB by just jumping to swat down a ball, but instead caught the ball and ran it in for 6 points. It was very JJ Watt type of ability and looked incredibly similar. The ability to attack with all sorts of pass rush moves was outstanding to see, using rip, spin, or a quick inside swim move granted Leonard to make big defensive plays. Nick Leonard Nick Leonard 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Victor | 2024 State NY is one of the many TE/DE guys in New York who could actually play both positions at the next level but with his explosiveness, power, and physicality his skillset at defensive end would likely translate a little stronger at the next level. Leonard does a good job using his hands to win but also is very physical with his hands in creating contact and almost stunning offensive lineman at engagement. Leonard does a good job of winning with strength on the inside but also keeps great contain of the edge and has showcased the speed to take down running backs and other athletes in space. Overall, Leonard has really solid traits but improvements in his ability to shed blocks on the interior and more developed pass rush moves could lead to a big jump this season.

On offense Leonard has sure hands and can make plays in the pass game. Leonard runs a simple route tree but he runs it very effective and is a very reliable target. Leonard is even better as a run blocker where he has some of the strength and skills to move defenders that we see in some of the top offensive lineman. Leonard has a great motor and his physical hands help him win blocks at both the LOS and second level. On defense, Leonard has great physicality at the point of attack and has great discipline and contain. Leonard is very effective at performing his responsibilities and is incredibly consistent on both sides of the ball.
