6A Minor at 6A #2 Mountain Brook - Offensive Weapons

<p>Week 2 featured a great matchup between Minor and Mountain Brook in a Class 6A, Region 5 game. Mountain Brook gets the 49-14 region win over Minor and a few good performances at Spartan Stadium on Thursday night.</p>   <p><strong>Mountain Brook</strong></p>   <p><strong>#12 [player_tooltip player_id='127676' first='John' last='Colvin'] (Sr.) QB, 6-4 200</strong> - Colvin had the game of his career, throwing four touchdown passes in the first half. The senior QB completed 8-of-13 passes for 213 yards with four touchdowns in the win. Colvin has a nice touch on the deep ball and will stay in the pocket to make the big throw. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field before he takes off feeling any pressure. Colvin does well on his play action plays on holding linebackers, safeties, and can throw off the move. Head coach Chris Yeager loves how he knows the Spartans complex offense and is more than a game manager. The senior wide receiver had four receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns. The Samford verbal commitment is a deep ball threat that can catch the ball in traffic or run a reverse on a sweep play. He can jump over small DBs or outrun them to the end zone with good speed after the catch. One of the best blocking wide receivers in Class 6A. Anytime Beatty is in the slot position where safety or linebacker needs to cover him, it will be a problem for the opposing defense due to his speed and quickness in his routes. The junior running back has the speed to break the long one anytime on the field. Gamble had a big 63-yard touchdown run and ran away from the defense. Gamble does a great job finding the hole and making a big run for the Spartans. Gamble can catch the ball out of the backfield and runs good routes for a running back. Another Spartan receiver with good hands but can make the big play at anytime. The junior receiver has good hands and another good blocker. He has the speed and route running that has made big plays in the Spartans first three games of the season. He has caught a touchdown pass in all three games so far this season. The Spartans defense made the game difficult for the Minor offense for much of the night. The senior quarterback completed 18-of-29 passing for 142 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. For the season, Keye has thrown for over 900 yards with 12 touchdowns and only one interception in three games. Keye does a good job hanging in the pocket and isn't afraid of taking a big hit if he can complete the big play. With his speed and quickness, he gets a few more seconds in the pocket to get that pass off. Keye can throw it or can run it when the pocket gets pressure.
