Continue ReadingTop 20 senior quarterback Jake Phillips Jake Phillips 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Hempfield Area | 2023 State PA starts off his 2022 Fall tape with a surprising 61-yard touchdown on the ground. All of the schools recruiting Phillips are interested in his arm and the way he can layer the football, runs like this are icing on the cake. Phillips has always had a great feel for the seams, showing great command of the ball when splitting safeties. Phillips showed this and more this weekend. Jake was in full command on the offense, he looked like he didn’t break a sweat against GSH. Phillips finished with just two balls hitting the dirt, a game that was called at half time. 4 total touchdowns leave Phillips stock up through one week.
This weekend, I saw awesome athletes Jahiem White Jahiem White 5’9″ | 190 lbs | RB William Penn (York) | 2023 State PA and Jason Cross work in person. I came away thinking that there isn’t any role on the field that either can’t fill. I think the same about Jaydin Canady Jaydin Canady 5’10” | 180 lbs | ATH Greensburg Central Catholic | 2023 State PA . That’s a huge compliment considering White is on his way to West Virginia, while Cross just picked up his first FBS offer out of Akron.
Canady has always been touted as a do it all prospect. His senior tape has him looking a little different. He looks like he’s got something to prove. Tape showed quality pass rush reps that led to sacks and forced fumbles. Offensive reps showed he can still run with burst, while also providing pass-catching abilities both out of the backfield as well as at wideout if need be.
Surprisingly, Mount Lebanon had no answer for the vertical threat that is Gateway’s Dallas Harper Dallas Harper 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Gateway | 2023 State PA . Quarterback Brad Birch Brad Birch 6’0″ | 190 lbs | QB Gateway | 2024 State PA had no problem throwing balls up to Dallas Harper Dallas Harper 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Gateway | 2023 State PA who was more than likely getting behind the Mount Lebanon secondary. Quite the pair Birch and Harper might be this Fall, as I don’t see a scenario where Harper can’t threaten a defense with his speed outside. More impressively, even as Harper was dominating on offense, he still gave full effort at safety, coming down from his spot to land big hits. He also came up huge with an interception in this one.
The last senior on the list who happens to be criminally underrated. Richie Woods Richie Woods 5’10” | 180 lbs | ATH Peters Township | 2023 State PA instantly boosted his stock and rank with a week zero stat line that goes as follows.
11 att, 167 yards, 4 TDs / 4 tackles, 2 sacks.
A ton of Woods’ runs were ended with an exclamation mark, the young man was ready to make defenders feel him when he carried the ball. Peters Township made easy work of Fox Chapel. Watching this, I’m left with the impression that this won’t be the last time Woods puts up a game like this.
Aaron Crossley Aaron Crossley 5’11” | 205 lbs | RB Wyoming Area | 2024 State PA had a night toying with the Tunkhannock football team. 25 carries, 350+ yards, 4 scores on the ground, one through the air for good measure. Pure speed and acceleration proved to be too much to handle. We already think highly of Crossley, who we rank as a linebacker. The stats don’t point out the numerous tackles and hits he was in on, hard to notice when Crossley was absolutely running through and away from kids all night. This was a fun one to watch. This game itself might not move the needle much on his stock amongst college coaches as this was to be expected. If he continues on this path, he should expect to receive more calls and opportunities.
To say that Damian Tyminksi was the focal point of the Penn Argyl passing attack would be putting it lightly.
13 receptions to start off the year, most of them being easy tosses that allowed Tyminski to work in the open field. Slants, hitches and screens were frequent, can’t say I blame PA, Tyminski gained a first down almost every time. Tyminski also showed off high-pointing ability, coming down with a 50/50 ball over a DB’s head for a touchdown. Expect Tyminski to have a hand in all three phases of the game each week.
Nine catches for 200+ yards and three touchdowns goes th e stat line for Dereon Greer Dereon Greer 6’1″ | ATH Our Lady Sacred Heart | 2024 State PA on opening night. Shenango had no answer for OLSH’s passing atack. Nehemiah Azeem Nehemiah Azeem 5’9″ | 170 lbs | QB Our Lady of the Sacred Heart | 2023 State PA and Greer connected at all three levels of the field, showing that the two were fully locked in. Greer looks a bit different this year, physically speaking. He looks slightly slimmer and toned up. Greer mixed in toughness and speed after the catch, proving that he isn’t a one dimensional wideout, all the more reason to raise him on our ranks after the season. Greer’s wasted no time flashing his full potential .
Caden Henritzy Caden Henritzy 6’1″ | 210 lbs | RB Northampton | 2024 State PA was running hard this weekend, hitting between the tackle runs with authority as well as showing fresh legs when bouncing runs outside. Henritzy scored on three of his 13 attempts in week one, setting up what will likely be a heavy dose of the running back this Fall season. He made good on his top 20 running back ranking. All that being said, Henritzy has better games left in his bag. Good way to start the year.
Highlights
What an all-around night for Fleetwood’s Mason Musitano Mason Musitano 6’3″ | 165 lbs | ATH Fleetwood | 2024 State PA . There wasn’t a phase of the game Musitano didn’t have an impact on. The offensive plays will surely get the most attention, yet his efforts as a tackler, blocker, special teamer and DB shouldn’t go unnoticed. Musitano blocked a punt and almost came away with an interception, while also laying kids out in the open field on both sides of the ball. Musitano was also on the same page with QB Jack Riffle Jack Riffle 6’2″ | 175 lbs | QB Fleetwood | 2024 State PA , coming up with three total scores against this Kutztown secondary that quite literally couldn’t locate Musitano half the time. Awesome start to the year.
