This article looks at both established skill position players, along with some developmental options along the OL. Quarterbacks [player_tooltip player_id="20203" first="Tyler" last="Macon"] (East St. Louis HS)- Slender, trim, proportioned frame with some definition. Good footwork and body control in the pocket. Shows good processing and ability to mirror feet with eyes in order to get body square to each WR, as he goes through reads. Displays good pocket presence, he will sit in the pocket and allow routes to develop, but can slide laterally or step up to elude. Good motion, short, tight, and couples it with a quick snap release that allows the ball to come out clean. Good play strength both upper and lower body, uses hips, core torque, and weight transition to generate good zip on all throws. Very good accuracy, puts the ball in catchable spots for WRs to both protect themselves and also pick up YAC. Very good mobility outside the pocket, he couples COD, lateral agility, acceleration, and foot quickness together in order to be very effective as a runner. He can consistently make the first defender miss, while also maintaining good play strength in order to finish runs. His foot speed allows him to be a big play threat as a runner, and he is a home run threat from anywhere on the field. Overall, a top dual-threat QB in the state who has day one starting potential at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="20223" first="Kaleb" last="Garner"] (Kenwood HS)- Slender, trim, proportioned with definition. Good processing and footwork off the snap, in order to quickly read the defense and know where to go with the ball. Good vision to get to second read. Displays good pocket presence to use quick lateral movements to elude. Short, tight motion with a good release at the throw point that allows the ball to come out clean. Shows good play strength with good core torque to generate zip, and allow him to make the intermediate to deep throws. Solid accuracy, can get the ball in tight windows. Very good mobility, with acceleration/burst, lateral agility, and COD to consistently make the first defender miss, and his accleration allows him to quickly transition out of cuts. Overall, a dynamic player who has the traits and ability to be a playmaker at the next level. Running Backs [player_tooltip player_id="20357" first="Devin" last="Miles"] (Danville HS)- Good height and weight with solid frame. Good acceleration and burst off the snap. Very good vision and COD to set up and cut off blocks. Very good anticipation to see holes open or close, and possesses the acceleration/foot quickness to bounce around the edge. Very good agility once breaking LOS, consistently makes the first defender miss and has home run ability from anywhere on the field. He couples very good speed with his agility and COD to finish the big play, and hit holes quickly. He is a very good player who is going to be successful at the next level. Wide Receivers [player_tooltip player_id="20194" first="Dominic" last="Lovett"] (East St. Louis HS)- Good height and solid weight, trim, athletic, proportioned with some definition. Very good acceleration off the snap vs. Zone, Press, and Off. Shows very good foot quickness, and can beat any one on one coverage clean, just with his speed alone. He maintains his speed through his stem, and has a second gear coming out of break. Good route runner, uses subtle movements to set up break and create separation from defenders. He shows the ability to attack all areas of the field. Very good body control and tracking ability when the ball is in the air, can contort and alter speeds in order to receive the ball in stride. Post-catch very good running ability, gains a lot of YAC from his foot quickness, but also shows solid play strength in order to elude arm tackles. He’s tough in the open field, and is looking to score from any area of the field, each time he touches the ball. Overall, he is a top notch talent who has the ability to play inside or outside. He will have a chance to become a very special player at the next level. Keantez Lewis (East St. Louis HS)- Good height and weight, trim, slender, proportioned with some definition. Good acceleration off the snap, can consistently beat Press, Off, or Zone coverage. Good foot quickness through stem and into the top of route. He gets a second gear once he is even or a step in front of the DB. Good route runner, uses good footwork and body control, along with acceleration when coming out of breaks to create separation. Very good tracking ability when the ball is in the air, and can contort to make adjustments. Displayed very good high pointing ability, can absorb contact from defender and come down with the ball. Hands catcher, snatches the ball and has good transition. Very good post-catch ability with foot quickness and physicality in order to gain a lot of YAC. He shows home run potential from anywhere on the field. Overall, a very good prospect who can play inside or out at the next level. He is going to be very productive at the next level. Taidhgin Trost (Prairie Ridge HS)- Solid height and weight, slender, proportioned with little definition. Shows good vision, and running ability in the open field. Good acceleration through holes, and enough play strength to run through arm tackles. Good physicality at the POA, and is a tough tackle in the open field. Solid hands, displayed the ability to high point and snatch the football. He was used as a scatback/WR, and he played mainly from a wing position. Coming out of this offense, he will need to develop as a route runner, as his future at the next level is going to be as a slot WR. He has the WR traits available to him, but it will take some time to continue to develop them. Tight Ends [player_tooltip player_id="20354" first="Carter" last="Evans"] (Prairie Ridge HS)- Solid height and good weight, buff, athletic, basketball build, proportioned with definition. He was used in a variety of ways within the Prairie Ridge offense, and was also used as a primary ball carrier and H-Back. He has good athletic ability with good foot quickness, agility, and play strength. As of now he is projected to develop into a TE with the combination of his athletic ability and size. A good football player who should make a smooth transition. Offensive Line Malcolm Dyson (Bremen HS)- Good height and solid weight, thick, proportioned with some definition. Strictly a power G, who is going to work in a Man scheme. Vs. Run, solid get off, coupled with good play strength allow him to be effective. Is going to win and be effective based solely on his ability to drive legs and overpower defenders. His key to success in the run game is going to be locking hands into chest plate early, in order to control defender. When he doesn’t get locked on, isn’t going to have the foot quickness to adjust and get body square to defenders. Vs. Pass, stationary player, who will win if he shoots hands quickly off snap to gain initial positioning. Needs to get hands on defenders first in order to use leverage, and strength to compete throughout play. Overall, a player who’s success is defined with his get off. He has athleticism and ability at his size, but he has room to develop body. With continued development his quickness and agility should improve to allow him to be a more versatile G. Jayden Alvarez (Crystal Lake Central HS)- Solid height and weight, buff, trim, proportioned with definition. He will be able to play in a Zone or Man scheme. Shows good get off and burst off the snap. Good foot quickness to beat OL across face in Zone or get into OL chest with hand punch in Man. He will be able to work in space within either scheme, and shows good body control allowing him to breakdown and square up defenders. Solid hips in order to open and pull or scrape with little wasted movements. Vs. Pass, shows good foot quickness in order to mirror defenders, and has the athletic ability to slide with ease. His biggest concern at G is going to be his size and ability to anchor against larger defenders. Overall, a good athlete who has potential on the offensive side of the ball, but will need to continue building his body. His athletic ability makes him an interesting project that may ultimately see him moving to OC, if he can add weight while maintaining his athleticism.
