It’s a fun way to get to know some of these players outside of just evaluating them. We at Prep Redzone Florida want to bring you all-access into these players, it’s important to get to know them as individuals and what makes them great on the field! This series will give you the ability to get under the helmet and see what makes these prospects click and gives you behind the scenes coverage
Ezra Brennan-J.W. Mitchell, QB is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in Pasco County and in the state. Brennan was first-team All-State in 7A and was the conference player of the year after throwing 31tds…and shockingly doesn’t have a college offer, yet! We a Prep Redzone Florida hope to change that by giving him the exposure he deserves.
Tell me about last season and how it went for you and your team?
Even though my Junior year has been the highlight of my high school career so far, I know there is more to be done. Throughout the year we talked about one step at a time one game at a time. We would make a goal and complete it; therefore, we can make a new goal and take another step forward. I learned over the course of my junior year there is always something to improve on going into the next game. We complete a task on Friday night and get right back to work to complete the next task on the following Friday night. For the upcoming season, my goal is to push the brother on both sides of me to their full potential day in and day out and I believe if every single one of my other teammates does the same, we will put ourselves on the map.
Last season I earned the starting quarterback position while it was my first full year at Mitchell High School. All summer long we put in work and it showed on the field but this year we aren’t satisfied. Junior Year Stats
131.8 QB rating
116-186 completion rate 62.4%
2,304 passing yards
31 passing TDs
7 Rushing TDs
First-team All-State Quarterback
Conference Offensive Player of the Year
4.2 GPA
Who is the biggest role model in your life?
My parents have been my biggest role models and guide they are always there for me and push me to be the best person I can be every single day whether it is in school, society, or sports. My parents always make it happen when I ask to go to this tournament/camp or even practice and games. They won’t let me just be satisfied because they know I can always get better and that’s something I’m thankful for. Some times it’s tough when they are hard on me but in the end its what is best.
What would you say is your biggest strengths as a player?
I believe one of my biggest strengths in my game is my leadership I don’t let the game get to me. I try to stay as calm as possible and just put my head down and play my heart out and keep my team on track.
What colleges have looked at you in terms of interest and offers in particular as a rising senior?
Currently have no offers I have been in contact with most D3 schools and some Ivy League schools. Princeton, Columbia, Puget Sound, Warner, West Florida
What’s it like to play for Coach Schmitz, who is regarded as one of the best coaches in Pasco County?
Coach Schmitz has been a great coach to play for he’s a real player-friendly coach and is able to push every single one of his players to their maximum potential. It’s also great to have your head coach as your offense of coordinator makes it very fun and quarterback friendly. Allows me to throw the ball all over the field.
What are your personal goals for this upcoming season? What sets you apart from other QB recruits in Tampa?
My individual goals are to throw for 3000 yards with a 70% completion rating. What sets me apart from other recruits is my work ethic and leadership mentality. I will never quit on my team and will push my teammates to their full potential. As well as I will work hard in the classroom.
Anything you do in particular before each game?
On every game day, I go to Chipotle after school and get a rice bowl with chicken.
