Heart Over Height: 2023 RB’s

As expected, 2023 prospects will always be a bit shorter, and smaller due to the fact that a large amount of these players have not fully developed yet. Typically, 2023 prospects have not fully grown into their size, and frame. They will continue to add weight, grow taller, and fill out over their last three years of high school. Previously, in our Heart Over Height: 2021 RB’s article, we also discussed how RB is the one position in football, where we have seen a large amount of undersized prospects go on to make a name for themselves. This includes players at all levels of play. Despite the fact that 2023 prospects are naturally smaller, we still wanted to give some exposure to some of our favorite RB’s in Georgia’s 2023 class who we feel play at a level that is bigger than their size!   [player_tooltip player_id="34011" first="Justice" last="Haynes"]- 5’8 170 Blessed Trinity As a 2023 prospect, [player_tooltip player_id="34011" first="Justice" last="Haynes"] has already managed to pick up 5 Division 1 offers. This comes as no surprise, as his play is a direct reflection of this. In his freshman year, Haynes showed the ability to shoulder some of the load for his team’s offense. He consistently ran at a good pad level, allowing himself to sift through traffic each team he carried the ball. One of his strengths is his ability to utilize his vision to help him run well in between the tackles. Not only is he good at the line of scrimmage, but Haynes also runs with a good high knee drive, allowing him to shed tacklers. Haynes also runs with a burst, which is very attractive to college coaches. Despite his smaller frame and his current height, look for him to continue to grow and develop in his sophomore year. [player_tooltip player_id="34038" first="Tyler" last="Hunnicutt"]- 5’9 150 Mount Pisgah [player_tooltip player_id="34038" first="Tyler" last="Hunnicutt"] is one of the most talented RB prospects in the 2023 class, with a large amount of room to continue to develop, and play above his listed size. One of the things that stands out the most about Hunnicutt is his ability to catch out of the backfield. As the game of football is continuing to develop, having the ability to catch will not only be big for him, but it will be huge for his coaching staff as they get to drawing up plays that can gain some valuable yards. Hunnicutt also runs with a good stride, despite being upright a little more than one would prefer. Despite this, he runs with purpose, helping him to pick up valuable yards. With this, Hunnicutt also picks up blocks well, which is very beneficial for his teams passing game. Going into his sophomore year, look for Hunnicutt’s frame to continue to develop, and for him to become more fluid in his footwork and his ability to change direction [player_tooltip player_id="34019" first="David" last="Mbadinga"]- 5’8 170 Kell Perhaps our favorite player on this list, [player_tooltip player_id="34019" first="David" last="Mbadinga"] has already played at a very high level for Kell High School. Despite him being evidently smaller, his game speaks for itself. Mbadinga has very good speed for a 2023 RB, which often times results in touchdowns. With this, he hits the hole very well, with a good burst and change of speed. Mbadinga also shows to have good vision when carrying the ball, knowing when and how to change direction appropriately. So far, as a young prospect, he has picked up offers from schools such as Kansas State, and Michigan State. We expect him to pick up more during the 2020 season, and to start to gain national attention.
