Last year the Wildcats goal going into the season was to play in week 15 (championship weekend). After falling one game short of their goal last year, the Wildcats embark on a new season in 2020 and have once again set their sights high. They are lead by a very talented 2022 class.
Springfield returns a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. On offense Junior Quarterback Te’Sean Smoot Te’Sean Smoot 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Springfield | 2022 State OH leads the way. Smoot has several D1 offers including the University of Kentucky with more Power 5’s most assuredly to follow. Smoot has everything you want in a quarterback athletically and with leadership in spades. Smoot’s top target will be junior wide receiver Ben Van Noord. Standing 6’2 200 pounds Van Noord has a great combination of size and speed. He currently has offers from FCS schools Dayton and Penn. Anchoring the offensive line is Senior Tackle Rod Green Rod Green 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Springfield | 2021 State OH . Big Rod checks in at 6’4 300 pounds and moves well for a big offensive tackle. He has offers from FCS schools Eastern Kentucky and Gardner Webb.
The defense is lead by a very talented defensive backfield. It should be no surprise that this is a very fundamentally sound group as they’ve been coached by a former professional cornerback of 10 seasons, Maurice Douglas. Junior free safety Delian Bradley Delian Bradley 6'0" | 190 lbs | DB Springfield | 2022 State OH leads the way. Bradley had 4 interceptions and was 2nd on the team in tackles last season as a sophomore. Bradley is the most highly recruited athlete on the team right now holding offers from Iowa State, Michigan State, and Nebraska among many other FBS schools. Senior cornerback Kendel Dolby displays very fluid hips and good footwork, and also isn’t afraid to come up and play the run. Dolby’s bookend corner is Vincent Fisher. Fisher is a physical corner who does a great job of rerouting receivers and playing physical off the line of scrimmage, he currently holds an offer from FCS school Morehead St.
The defensive line starts in the middle with two talented junior defensive tackles. Nose Guard Jokell Brown Jokell Brown 6'0" | 270 lbs | DL Springfield | 2022 OH . Brown is a good athlete who’s formidable against the run and also finished with 6.5 sacks, a very impressive tally for an interior lineman and especially so for a sophomore. Defensive Tackle Tywan January shows a great get off and is a big time disruptor once in the backfield.
Perhaps Springfield’s biggest game of the regular season will be week 1 August 28 at home versus a talented Huber Heights Wayne team who we’ve featured on Prep Redzone Ohio as well. Unfortunately the general public won’t get to be at the game in person, but this should be one of the games of the year for sure.
