Fred Clark, 6-2 230, LB, Winona
Fred Clark has a reason why he is the number one LB in the class of 2024. He has all of the tools college coaches want to see in a LB at his age. He is very fast and knows how to break that speed down to make open field tackles. He can play downhill, he can play in the flats and he can even hold down the middle of the field. He was making plays all over the gridiron for the Cougars last season. He is a guy that plays from sideline to sideline. He approaches the game with a lot of energy that you dont want in your way. I love the way he reads his keys and does not just take off at the line of scrimmage. He holds offers from Miss State, Memphis and more. There will be more offers coming for this young man his junior season. He does so many things well and anybody would be happy to have him on their team.
Javien Jackson, 6-1 215, DE/OLB, Winona
Jackson is another kid out of Montgomery Co that plays with a high motor. He has a lot of speed off the edge and that helps him wreak havoc on QBs. Javien is a big guy that runs the 100 and 200m for their track team. When he comes off the edge he is coming with a lot of quickness and elusive moves. Javien does a great job of making open field tackles. He uses that athleticism he has to help him chase down smaller runners. I’m still not sure on my opinion for which position he will play at the next level. At this point I would like to see him crash the line more when the ball is going away from him. Going too far up field leave rooms for cut backs. Javien does not have any offers, but they should roll in this year.
Kieron Jones, 6-1 185, DB, Harrison Central
I was very elated to sit down and watch his film. This young man is a playmaker. He catches interceptions, he comes up to hit, he forces fumbles and does the good things you want a safety to do. Last year as a sophomore he took control of his secondary. When he intercepts the ball he is a threat to take it to the house. He knows how to help his corners over the top. If I’m playing cornerback with him over the top I’m going to cheat up some. You know a guy like KJ is going to have your back. When the football is thrown he breaks on it so quickly that it seems he knows exactly where the QB wants to go. He can step up and play in the box against teams who like to run the ball. This kid is absolutely phenomenal and his stock should rise a lot more this season. He is a safety that college coaches want to see.
Jermell Chaney, 6-3 215, LB, Collins
Jermell steps up and fills holes with a lot of anger. He is a hidden gem coming from the Pine Belt. He has a lot of strength he uses to defeat blockers and get to ball carriers. He uses that strength to get them down on contact. He does not miss many tackles and he knows how to get to the QB when he is on a blitz. He plays against the wing t a lot and he excels when he does. You can tell that he understands how to read keys at LB. You can sense that he has good training and isn’t just taking off when the football is snapped. I’m anxious to see more of Chaney this year. He has the size and speed to play on the next level. This season will be a very important season as far as his recruiting process goes.
Kayvion Freeman, 6-3 185, DB, Pearl
Kayvion seems to play a hybrid safety position. He lines up at nickel back a lot and is in the box with the LBs on some plays. He has a lot of skills and uses his length and speed to be a major force in the flats. He does a great job of attacking the ball when it is in the air. He also does a good job of coming up making hits. Anxious to see a lot more from him this season. He definitely has the size to be a good player on the next level.
