Los Alamitos won the event last season and will be competing again this season.
Some of the teams competing Saturday also competed at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament last week so their previews will be short because they just competed. For highlights from that tournament, click here to read.
POOL A
Mission Viejo, St. Paul, Bishop Amat, Capo Valley, La Habra
Mission Viejo
The Diablos surprised some people and won the Battle at the Beach passing tournament with playoff wins over Los Alamitos, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.
Kadin Semonza Kadin Semonza 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA is firing on all cylinders at quarterback and the Diablos have so many receiving weapons that you cannot key on anybody. If you bracket Mikey Matthews Mikey Matthews 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA , Jackson Holman Jackson Holman 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA can hurt you. If you shift the defense to Holman and Matthews, KJ Reed KJ Reed 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA or Edward Schultz Edward Schultz 6'1" | 195 lbs | WR Mission Viejo | 2023 State CA can hurt you. Mikey D’Amato is an underrated star on defense and Treyvon Tolmaire Treyvon Tolmaire 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Mission Viejo | 2024 CA is a ball hawk.

St. Paul
St. Paul won the consolation bracket of the SoCo Invitational tournament at Newport Harbor last weekend. Andrew Maushardt is a potential star at quarterback and Aidan Bravo Aidan Bravo 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR St. Paul | 2023 State CA is one of the more underrated receivers in Southern California.

Bishop Amat
Hunter Watson Hunter Watson 6'3" | 200 lbs | ATH Bishop Amat | 2023 CA really impressed me at quarterback in the clips I saw from the Battle at the Beach. He looks comfortable reading defenses and has good chemistry with his receivers, particularly Delano Franklin Delano Franklin 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Bishop Amat | 2023 State CA . St. Paul and Bishop Amat are arguably the two best teams in the San Gabriel Valley and they will play each other early on Saturday.

Capo Valley
Capo Valley hung with some top teams at the Battle at the Beach and got a walk-off win over Warren on an interception by Erik Carmona. Trey Kukuk Trey Kukuk 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Capistrano Valley | 2023 State CA is a polished quarterback with a quality arm. It remains to be seen how healthy the Capo Valley receivers will be.

La Habra
La Habra had a nice showing at the Corona del Mar passing tournament. Justin Gil Justin Gil 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB La Habra | 2023 State CA is as polished a quarterback as anyone in his class and Jacob Apodaca may be a 1,000 yard receiver this year. The Highlanders just added defensive back Eddie Rodriguez Jr. from Villa Park.

Chino Hills, Millikan, Los Alamitos, St. Bonaventure, Sierra Canyon
Chino Hills has a nice crop of returning receivers in William Davis, Jacob Brooks and Tyrese Boss Tyrese Boss 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Chino Hills | 2024 State CA . Keanu Vasquez may be the quarterback for Chino Hills. He is undersized at 5-foot-9 but has some accuracy and upside. Kade Musser and Hunter Corbin are two defensive stars for the Huskies.

Millikan
Myles Jackson Myles Jackson 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Millikan | 2024 CA looked really nice at quarterback in clips I saw from the Battle at the Beach. Jordan Anderson Jordan Anderson 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Newport Harbor | 2024 State CA will be one of the best receivers at the event and Ryan Pellum Ryan Pellum 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millikan | 2024 State CA can make big plays after the catch. In a passing league setting, expect running back Nygel Osborne Nygel Osborne 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Millikan | 2023 State CA to make plays from the backfield.

Makai Lemon Makai Lemon 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA did not compete at the Battle at the Beach due to injury but Ethan O’Connor Ethan O’Connor 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA stepped up and Kassius Ashtiani Kassius Ashtiani 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR Los Alamitos | 2023 State CA will get some run after transferring from Mater Dei.
St. Bonaventure
Anthony Wolter Anthony Wolter 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Saint Bonaventure | 2024 State CA is a high-profile quarterback for Saint Bonaventure and Manny Rosales is a quarterback who is a very good athlete. Delon Thompson Delon Thompson 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB St. Bonaventure | 2023 State CA is a star running back and we will see how they use him out of the backfield in the passing game and Koen Glover is an intriguing sophomore. Joaquin Johnson Joaquin Johnson 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR St. Bonaventure | 2023 CA is a returning receiver who had decent numbers last season.

Josiah Phillips Josiah Phillips 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Sierra Canyon | 2023 State CA is a good athlete who was offered by San Diego State recently and Jae’on Young is one of the top class of 2025 athletes in the state. Nevada Miller Nevada Miller 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Sierra Canyon | 2025 State CA is another intriguing sophomore for Sierra Canyon. Ruben Gamboa Ruben Gamboa 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA is a great defensive back who transferred in from Chaminade and Alonzo Esparza Alonzo Esparza 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Los Alamitos | 2025 State CA will compete for the starting quarterback job after transferring from Culver City. Alonzo Contreras Alonzo Contreras 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Calabasas | 2024 State CA is also a quarterback at Sierra Canyon with Division 1 offers.
