<span style="font-size: 14pt;">Many prospects inside our recently updated 2023 rankings are beginning to make their future collegiate intentions known. In this piece, we will highlight hard/verbal commitments to the ACC and BIG12 conferences, specifically Top-100 prospects out of Pennsylvania. We at Prep Redzone congratulate each and every one of these young men and wish each nothing but the best along their long journey ahead.</span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="127235" first="J’ven" last="Williams"] | 6’4, 290 | OL | Wyomissing | Penn State</strong></span></em></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139966" first="Lamont" last="Payne"] | 6’1, 175 | DB | Chartiers Valley | Penn State</strong></span></em></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="66053" first="Jameial" last="Lyons"] | 6’4, 245 | DL | Roman Catholic | Penn State</strong></span></em></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="248930" first="Yazeed" last="Haynes"] | 6’1, 170 | WR | North Penn | Penn State</strong></span></em></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97607" first="Joey" last="Schlaffer"] | 6’5, 215 | TE | Exeter Township | Penn State</strong></span></em></span>
Many often say, the best in the state, stay in the state. This notion is prevalent here in Pennsylvania, as Penn State has secured 5 top-20 Prep Redzone prospects to sate. Although the top-ranked prospect in all of Pennsylvania committed to Penn State University relatively early, [player_tooltip player_id="127235" first="J’ven" last="Williams"] is the latest offensive linemen to commit to the Nittany Lions. Back in February of this year, the Wyomissing senior made his future intentions known, adding to the already stellar offensive line group that has verbally committed. Williams joins two Virginia prospects, both of which names’ echo across the nation, especially Alex Birchmeier, the 5-star interior linemen who announced his commitment this time last year.
Penn State has secured five prospects at five different positions. [player_tooltip player_id="139966" first="Lamont" last="Payne"], our top-ranked 2023 corner, still awaits more corners to join the party. Payne is the only pure corner to commit thus far, despite the Nittany Lions securing two defensive backs projected to play safety at the next level.
Things are beginning to heat up along the defensive line for PSU, as the Nittany Lions recently secured two stud potential pass-rushers in New York’s Tyriq Blanding and Alabama’s Tomarrion Parker all within the last two weeks. Before these two big names announced, Roman Catholic’s [player_tooltip player_id="66053" first="Jameial" last="Lyons"] served as the lone edge-rusher commit for the program. The 6’4, 250-pound senior was a great grab as is, let alone adding the elite out-of-state talent.
Former Rutgers commit earned a Penn State offer after his brilliant performance at a Rivals camp earlier this Spring, not to mention his outstanding updated 40-time. A new window of opportunity was opened for [player_tooltip player_id="248930" first="Yazeed" last="Haynes"], who didn’t turn back. The former Neuman-Goretti standout will join New Jersey’s Ejani Shakir as the only wideouts to commit to PSU thus far. We expect that to change very soon. Both Shair and Haynes share similar skillsets.
If you follow Pennsylvania high school football, you’ll remember [player_tooltip player_id="139966" first="Lamont" last="Payne"] and [player_tooltip player_id="97607" first="Joey" last="Schlaffer"] being the first two 2023 prospect to commit to PSU, doing so relatively quickly after last year’s Fall season concluded. Massachusetts’ Andrew Rappleyea has since committed to the Nittany Lions as well. The program is quickly developing a giant and talented future tight end group. Penn State’s stranglehold on Pennsylvania prospects remains a tight grip. Sources say much more talent is headed this program’s way.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27732" first="Marquese" last="Williams"] | 5’10, 195 | RB | Bishop McDevitt | Minnesota</strong></span></em></span>
The top-ranked running back, since the commencement of the 2023 rankings I might add, announced his decision to commit to Minnesota. That top-ranked status doesn’t change as he enters the Gopher running back room as the highest-ranking prospect, out-ranking Michigan’s Darius Taylor by a hair. Glad to see such a prestigious running back program embrace Williams’ size.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="64014" first="Jordan" last="Mayer"] | 6’5, 230 | DL | Thomas Jefferson | Wisconsin</strong></span></em></span>
We at Prep Redzone love [player_tooltip player_id="64014" first="Jordan" last="Mayer"] for his versatility on the field. There isn’t much I wouldn’t trust the young man to do, we believe Wisconsin holds him to the same standard. Time will tell where Mayer will make an impact at Wisconsin, early projections align the Thomas Jefferson senior at edge-rusher. He would be joining Illinois prospects, Roderick Pierce and Jamel Howard as the three Badger commits slated to play along the defensive line.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="248822" first="Davoun" last="Fuse"] | 6’5, 190 | ATH | Washington | Rutgers</strong></span></em></span>
Speaking of versatility. [player_tooltip player_id="248822" first="Davoun" last="Fuse"] is quite possibly the best Athlete in the state of Pennsylvania. Although we ranked Mayer slightly ahead of Fuse, throw the rankings aside and know just how great of an athlete this young man is. Quarterback, wideout, defensive back, kick/punt return. Wherever you need Fuse, he can play that role. We hope Rutgers utilizes his outstanding size and athleticism to the fullest of it’s capabilities.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160487" first="Braeden" last="Wisloski"] | 5’10, 185 | ATH | Southern Columbia | Marlyand</strong></span></em></span>
A very recent commitment, Southern Columbia star and top-40 senior Braeden Wislowski announced his decision to pursue football at Maryland. The terps land their first Pennsylvania product, a prospect who might be under-rated in the national scene. Wisloski continues to trend of this post, a versatile prospect who’s position at the next level has yet to be determined. We hope to see Wisloski shock many outside of the state who have yet to know his name and game.
