The state has produced multiple 5-star offensive linemen in recent years, so they do come through often. With the newest 2023 rankings out, here are the top-ranked OT prospects in Georgia according to Prep Redzone…
Bo Hughley – Langston Hughes
Coming in at No. 1 as the state’s top offensive line prospect and the No. 8 prospect in Georgia overall, the big Atlanta native has plenty of size and length at 6-foot-7 280-pounds. He has a great frame for a promising tackle prospect with his length, height, and ability to continue adding good weight and muscle. He’s lean right now but still has plenty of time to continue filling out. The Georgia Bulldog commitment has a strong initial punch and shows impressive footwork and a balanced base in pass protection. His long arms giving him an advantage over smaller edge defenders, and he can be a strong run blocker as well, opening holes on the outside on a consistent basis. Length is something you can’t teach, and that’s exactly what Hughley has. He held down the left tackle spot for an impressive Langston Hughes team as a junior last year and will man down that spot again as a senior. He’s still a work in progress, and that’s a good thing. His best football is still way ahead of him, so even though he’s ranked No. 1 in the state, he can still get much, much better.
Zechariah Owens Zechariah Owens 6'7" | 345 lbs | OL Eagle;s Landing Christian Academy | 2023 State GA – Eagle’s Landing Christian
Ranked as the No. 2 overall OL prospect and the No. 19 overall prospect in Georgia, Owens is a gigantic offensive line prospects who can absolutely bully opposing defenders with ease in his classification. A mountain of a man at 6-foot-7 345-pounds, Owens is a force in the run game and has no problem throwing opposing defensive linemen backwards. He’s simply too big and too powerful for defensive linemen in the region to take on. He’s easy to notice and a “first guy off the bus” type, and he plays with an intimidating style. He’s powerful in the upper body and moves well for someone his size. He can’t be pushed backwards and can be too wide for speedy defenders to get around. He has long arms, plays with balance, and is one of the top left tackles in the entire classification. His film is fun to watch, and he was a pancake machine last year at tackle. The massive Mcdonough native holds offers from Clemson, FSU, Penn State, South Carolina, among others.
Kelton Smith Kelton Smith 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Carver | 2023 State GA – Carver
Another dominant tackle prospect with D1 size at 6-foot-5 300-pounds, Smith is now ranked as the No. 3 OL prospect in Georgia and the No. 21 overall prospect in the state. He’s strong at the point of attack and uses his length to drive defenders backwards, but his ability to move and athleticism stand out the most. Not only does he handle his opponent just about every snap, but he completely erases them from the play. He’s a running back’s best friend as he excells in the run game, driving his defender backwards, allowing giant holes to open up on the left side. He’s an excellent pass protector as well, proving to be the best overall lineman in West Georgia. He dominated last fall as a junior, and it’s led to offers from Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, FSU, among others. He’s easily one of the best tackle prospects in the state, and he’s looking to lead Carver back to the state title game in 2022.
Shamurad Umarov Shamurad Umarov 6'6" | 275 lbs | OL Denmark | 2023 State GA – Denmark
A promising tackle prospect with his best football still in front of him, Umarov is a big 6-foot-6 295-pound tackle who already looks like a D1-caliber lineman from a physical perspective. The Forsyth County lineman as a nice frame, plenty of length, and will continue adding solid weight and muscle. He plays with a solid base and shows impressive footwork for someone his size. He’s still learning, but he’s getting better and better each day. He has big, strong hands and developed and learned more and more as the season moved along last fall. Umarov is being coached by one of the best staffs across Georgia, so you can expect him to continue to get better and better this offseason. He has the tools to be very successful at the next level, and that’s one reason why he’s earned major offers from schools like Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan State, Florida, among others. He has sky high potential, and he’s expected to have a dominant senior season for the Danes in 2022. He’s now ranked as the No. 4 OT prospect in Georgia and the No. 33 overall prospect in the state in the newest 2023 rankings.
