You’ve heard about in my opinion, they have one of the best linebacking cores in Minnesota with Brayden Weber Brayden Weber 6'2" | LB Becker | 2021 State MN , Teddy Halvorson Teddy Halvorson LB Becker | 2021 State MN , and Tommy Halvorson Tommy Halvorson LB Becker | 2021 State MN . They also have a defensive back you are going to learn about today in Kyle Millard who has 4.6 speed, and a good size as a 6’0 DB. We chatted with Millard about his recruiting trail, where he sees the Becker Bulldogs in 2020, and so much more. Enjoy!
Get to Know Kyle Millard
Millard is currently cornerback for Becker, but sees himself more of safety as he transitions into the college game. Millard is just a straight-up workhorse that lives in the gym and works his tail off at all costs. “I’m always doing something active,” Millard told Prep Redzone Minnesota. Millard just loves to run in the gym and all over the field at DB, and is a definite gamer that just loves the game of football.
Bests About Cornerback
As for what Millard loves about the cornerback position, he said his ability to press guys at the line and get into their heads is what he loves most about the position along with always getting physical with the receiver or whoever else he may be guarding. Millard is wanting to switch to safety, as he says he wants that because of the ability to “make plays everywhere” all over the field versus staying on one side of the football field.
Recruiting/Elevator Pitch
Thus far, Millard has only gotten some Division III level interest, but his elevator pitch is spoken like a prospect that just wants to come into a program and compete. See below:
My pitch to college programs is I am going to come into your program and be the hardest working guy out there. I have no off the field issues, and I’m a great leader. I would say I just love football and I love being around it all along with being fast, strong, and smart. I have the mindset that I can go onto any team and make them better from what they started with.
Work Ons for Millard
Millard has brought on the “student of the game” mindset to his 2020 offseason. “I’ve been on Hudl a lot, watching old films and I watch a lot of the NFL Network and I’ve been watching a lot of stuff on YouTube and studying all of it a lot,” Millard said about his biggest things he’s worked on this offseason.
Kyle’s Mentor
“Coach Otto has taken me under his wing since last season,” Millard told Prep Redzone Minnesota. Otto has pushed his mindset of having strong speed and agility were crucial to Kyle’s winter workouts in which Kyle took full advantage of. Otto has shown Kyle the mindset about how to be at that great level as a DB.
Learning from Last Season/2020 Goals
“Coach knows best”, is a phrase most players know, but don’t always listen to on the field. “I always thought I was smarter than the coaches,” Millard jokingly said when talking about his mindset from the 2019 season. Millard no longer has that mindset anymore, and has become a more coachable player in his efforts to improve his game. Millard has three goals for this season; win a state championship, lockdown every wide receiver that comes his way, and find a football home at the college level which I think are all retainable goals for the Becker defensive back!
