The recruiting trail is heating up as spring football concludes and athletes are getting the chance to visit or receiving offers heading into the summer. Here is a look at some recent happenings across recruiting for some Colorado high school prospects.
[player_tooltip player_id="43842" first="Andrew" last="Metzger"] receiving multiple offers
The No. 1 ranked tight end for the Class of 2023 right now is Regis Jesuit’s [player_tooltip player_id="43842" first="Andrew" last="Metzger"]. A two-way player who has played well for the Raiders, Metzger has a multitude of FBS programs offering scholarships to him. His most recent offer came last week from Duke. https://twitter.com/AndrewMetzger87/status/1512965742572023808 Metzger also shares from a handful of other schools on his social media account, including local region schools like Colorado, Air Force and Wyoming, among others. He has also taken visits with a number of schools as well. Metzger is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound athlete that lists a 4.8 40-yard dash time. On film, he shows a great blocking ability and has been steadily working on his route running and receiving, where he caught 18 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 2021. He played a big role on the defensive line as well in the fall with 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks from his defensive end position.
Offers add up for [player_tooltip player_id="62213" first="Logan" last="Brantley"], visit to Power 5 school
Another local player adding up the offers in recent months is Cherry Creek linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="62213" first="Logan" last="Brantley"]. Currently ranked the No. 2 linebacker in his class in Colorado, he has many FBS offers from Group of 5 and Power 5 schools. Most recently, he took a visit to Washington from the Pac-12. https://twitter.com/LoganBrantley4/status/1513527101168758786 The visit was a few weeks after taking a visit with another Power 5 school in Kansas from the Big 12 back in March. https://twitter.com/LoganBrantley4/status/1508244703719870474 At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Brantley is a hybrid linebacker/safety position player who flies all over the field. He can drop into coverage and shows some good disguises between zone and man coverage, and he can run with receivers across the field, or he can go in the box to either rush the quarterback or help against the run. He delivers a hard hit at the point of contact on his film as well. He recorded 61 tackles and seven passes defended in the 2021 season that saw Cherry Creek win the Class 5A state championship.
[player_tooltip player_id="242109" first="Rashad" last="Caldwell"] receives offer from local school
One of the top receivers to watch this fall will be [player_tooltip player_id="242109" first="Rashad" last="Caldwell"] of Denver South, the returning leader in receiving yards with 1,193 (third most in 2021). Ranked the No. 2 wide receiver for his class, he recently shared an offer with Northern Colorado in Greeley last week. https://twitter.com/cantguardshad1/status/1512875241856401409 A few Ivy League schools have already offered to Caldwell, including Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth and Penn. He also shared some graphics made by local schools Colorado State and Wyoming for him. As fellow scout Ryan Wesley pointed out in a recent article: “If there is one thing about Caldwell that instantly stands out, it is his ability to create space and get open by either outrunning defenders or simply catching over them. He is a powerful route-runner with great speed and explosiveness, making him a must-know player regardless of where he suits up.”
[player_tooltip player_id="150219" first="Nathaniel" last="Robinson"] out at Boise State for spring ball
Boise State has been able to land some top prospects from Colorado in recent years. Could [player_tooltip player_id="150219" first="Nathaniel" last="Robinson"] be the next? The junior athlete from Palmer Ridge was recently up at the school to take in the spring football game. https://twitter.com/NateRobinson28/status/1512950595648311297 Robinson has also shared visits with Colorado, Texas Tech and Kansas so far. Even though he does not show an official offer on his social media page, plenty should be coming in for him. A hard runner who goes north-to-south quickly and can find the hole right away, Robinson is a versatile back who can fill many roles in an offense and should see more production in his senior season.
CSU two targets to watch
Colorado State will look to target some top local prospects under new head coach Jay Norvell. Two athletes to share their recent experiences with the program include [player_tooltip player_id="62220" first="Tai" last="Faavae"] of Fountain Fort Carson and [player_tooltip player_id="306981" first="Jerry" last="Lydiatt"] of Pine Creek. For Faavae, the No. 1 ranked linebacker in his class so far, he received a scholarship from the Rams after his visit to a spring practice last week. https://twitter.com/TaiFaavae/status/1512893231926689794 Faavae will have plenty of suitors for him as he already has a handful of offers and visit under his belt so far. In the 2021 season, he was big for the defense with 126 total tackles, and he also ran for 327 yards and two touchdowns on offense. As for Lydiatt, he comes in as one of the best long snappers in the class and a good receiving prospect. He recently took in a spring practice at Colorado State as well. https://twitter.com/LydiattJerry/status/1512876031274733568 Other recent visits include Arizona State and Georgia State for Lydiatt. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete can line up as a H-Back and be a solid lead blocker in the run game or can run routes from that position and when he splits out into the slot. He caught 14 passes for 193 yards and one touchdown last season. Make sure to share any recruiting news with Prep Redzone Colorado for profiles down the road. Make sure to tweet us at @PrepRedzoneCO for offers, visits, workouts and more that we should spotlight.
