, it was his fourteenth offer to play football. Although college football is about as good a lock as anyone in the state, McMillian has some unfinished business he wants to attend to before moving on to college ball.
“We had a good season, but we came up short in the state championship game,” McMillian said. “I feel like this year we will be better than last year. We played well during the regular season and in the playoffs, but in the championship game, we came up short against a good team.”
The team was undefeated before falling in the state championship game, but McMillian felt like the team’s strength had nothing to do with X’s and O’s.
“The friendships on and off the field made us able to trust each other.”
Like the season for the team, McMillian expected more of himself.
“I felt like I did pretty well – not as well as I expected,” the 6’3″ 210-pound athlete said. “I wanted a few more interceptions and more tackles.”
McMillian’s primary position was linebacker in the Polars’ 4-3 defense.
“I was always lined up as the strong-side outside linebacker.”
“My vision,” McMillian continued, “my ability to get to the ball and tackle and my ability to communicate with my inside linebacker are my strengths.”
McMillian started both ways.
“I started at wide receiver too. I would line up on both sides – always on the outside. I was able to block well and help get my teammates open.”
Prepredzone.com’s tenth rated player from the Class of ’21 has been focused on a few specific areas.
“I have been working on my quickness and footwork. I have been working on reading coverages on both sides of the ball. I have been working on improving my tackling form. I do footwork and then lift. Lifting, I focus on bench, clean, and squat. I would have run track this spring. I would have done the 4X100, 4X200, and the high jump.”
McMillian picked up his first DI offer in January.
“Recruiting is slow right now. Wyoming, Buffalo, and North Dakota State have been contacting me the most. I have fourteen offers right now.”
McMillian is being recruited as a linebacker. He has offers from Eastern Kentucky, Wyoming, Buffalo, South Alabama, Northern State, Bryant University, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Montana State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, and Central Michigan.
“They like the type of person I am outside of football,” McMillian explained. “They like my tackling ability and my ability to communicate with my teammates.”
McMillian and his teammates want another shot at a state title – so they can finish their business.
