Their ’23 RB/SS Owen Quail Owen Quail RB Deuel | 2023 State is no different, good kid, asked great questions when I contacted him and I could see he is very determined on the field after watching film and talking to him. He is a hard-nosed, straight ahead runner that doesn’t mess around once he has the ball. He has speed to get to the perimeter on zone runs and tosses, but he has great vision and instincts on when to cut up field when he finds a gap in the defense. He has great acceleration once he gets to the Line of Scrimmage and outruns most the defense once he gets vertical. Unfortunately, a broken leg ended his season in Week 3. I caught up with Owen and was able to interview him about his Junior Season. Check it out below:
PRZ: Hello Owen, tell us a little about yourself and when you began playing football.
Quail: I’m a Junior at Deuel High School and I’m involved in basketball, track, key club, national honor society and football. I started playing football in Third Grade.
PRZ: What do you love about the game?
Quail: Football is the ultimate team sport. Everyone on the field has to do their job in order for the team to be successful. I also love the relationships made during football because they aren’t quite like any others.
PRZ: What do you feel are your strengths?
Quail: I feel that I’m a good leader because I feel like I do a good job at firing the guys up before games. I also have a sense of humor on the field and know the right time to be serious or not. I also hold my teammates accountable as well.
PRZ: What do you feel you need to improve on?
Quail: Confidence. With my injury, I feel like it’s messing with my head and I’m second guessing myself and my ability.
PRZ: How was Deuel’s season?
Quail: Our team unfortunately suffered many injuries this season. The bright side is that it gave some young guys some experience for next season. We ended the year with a 5-4 record. We competed in each game considering the circumstance of the team’s injuries.
PRZ: How was your season personally?
Quail: I started off the season well with two pretty good performances, which led to wins. I broke my leg in the third game of the season, which ended it. The injury made me appreciate football more however.
